I see 6 on a fairly regular basis. Seems like not a week goes by that I don't see one or more. ONCOLOGIST, RHEUMATOLOGIST.CARDIOLOGIST,UROLOGIST, DERMATALOGIST & OF COURSE, THE CONDUCTOR OF THIS MEDICAL ORCHESTRA, THE PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN. ARE THEY ALL NECESSARY??? YES they are.
PCP twice a year and the eye guy once a year. I would be seeing more if I followed the advice of my PCP but I often decline his recommendations.
Just one. It used to be once a year, but recently he has started making it every 6 months. I think I'll have a talk with him about that, or else just cancel in plenty of time, and delay making a new appointment for 6 months.
Several and my dentist 1-2 times a week my best friend! I spent the day taking a trauma, wound care class that my doctor got me in 5 more weeks of it. I have 2 appointments in the next few weeks, I try very hard to take care of myself now.
@Nancy Hart I like your approach! Straightforward, no nonsense, disagree with the guy politely! Nice! I gotta remember that, when the docs start "using me" too much! Frank
I see a urologist once a year since my accident, and I go to the VA if they call, generally once or twice annually. I refuse most prescriptions unless they are for acute ills, though, so they don't like me much.
@Don Alaska Please elaborate, if you don't mind such personal intrusion. Refusal would simply imply failing to fill them. Here, the doc faxes the scrip to a pharma of our choice. Whether we buy it or not, is then our choice. Do you refuse at the "point of sale"? Frank
Frank, they suggest a drug and I simply say no. No script is ever sent to the pharmacy. I choose what I do, and I value that opportunity. Sometimes they will accept that I just don't take drugs unless I think there is a need. I have already said I don't accept the "cholesterol" theory. In your case, I would want the blood tests to see if there is a diagnosis. If a firm diagnosis is made, then I decide whether I believe it or not. If I believe it, i consider my options as to treatment or not. I probably have some insight that you may not, but you are a very smart guy who knows how to explore options.
I see my PCP every 4 months, my neurologist every 6 months. Orthopedic Dr. as needed. While it lasted I went to physical therapy twice a week.
usually just one, my GP... when needed, but this last year or 18 months I have seen so many consultants I can't count
Zero... The only thing I have to do -so far is take BP and every 7 days send to my heart doctor. I will on ocasssions send him a picture of something bothering me, and tell or ask questions. I love that he does things this may, keeps expense down and stress levels actually. I am suppose to be on several things...lol long story, but I am not. I am not a necessarily healthy person, but am still here fer now.
The only time I see a doctor is when I really believe there is something wrong that I cannot control or when it is time to appease the insurance gods. Both my VA and civilian doctors like to have blood taken a couple times a year, which is something I really do not mind because it allows me to see where I am at. There is no such thing as telling my VA doctor “no” because she’s been with it for around 20 years and she gets pretty cranky at times. So, I just nod my head like a good soldier and go about my way doing what I think is best from the information I have gleaned from the blood tests. Then, there’s the civilian doctor. He’s old, highly educated and will let a person know how well educated with a tone of arrogance unlike anyone I have experienced before. Other than vitamin D-3, he doesn’t like any supplimentation in any form it comes in so.....I either do not bring the subject up or lie my rear end off which hurts because I hate to lie. But yeah, a couple times a year for each PCP does it for me.
