And Then He Had His Way With Her. Sound Familiar?

Recent press about sexual harassment, molestations etc. makes me think about the above comment written in novels of years past. I wondered when I first ever read this just what his way was and is it different from others and how. Still makes me laugh.

I believe the gist of that comment is it was made during a time when women were the "fair sex" and were to be respected (mistakenly) for their naivete and reticence. Times have changed as "equality" has become the norm.

Thank God times have changed...often ''he had his way with her'' when it was the last thing she wanted...

 

It sounds like a line from the old bodice-ripper romance novel's that my aunt used to read.

 

You notice the focal point is "He had His way with her!"

 

Exactly my point Babs... and although things have improved there's still a long way to go for things to change completely..

 

How about the Victorian Mother tell her Daughter to on her wedding night.

Just lay back and think of England.

 

That's because in the Victorian Era, women by and large were incapable of earning a salary enough to keep themselves and therefore needed a working husband , so they had little choice but to allow themselves to be used by men in ways which women today wouldn't necessarily permit!!

 

I'm sorry but my mother's paperbacks explained it in detail to me. lol

 

Think it was more to do with that we needed young boys growing up to be men to go all over the world to die in wars for England

 

Reminds me of some "macho" NFL players that demand things of their girlfriends or wives and if not done...…..

 

I don't remember the book or novel or when and where I read the above statement but it has always stuck in my mind and posed a question or two. What Was His Way? Was His Way Different From Some One Else? What Prompted Him To Have His Way? What Did She Do?

 

Maybe it's a individual headspace thing, but I don't like wimpy men.
I gravitate towards men who are more aggressive and confident.
Sure, there are bad guys out there, but women seem to use those few as an excuse to put all men down.
Anyway, I didn't find anything demeaning in the statement.

 

It was just a veiled reference to a sexual encounter; innuendo. In times past, writing was not as explicit as today. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Personally I could use a little less information about some people's activities.

 

Nowadays they give explicit details in the romance novels. Some of them are borderline pornography. How do I know? Somebody told me.
