SUNDAY MORNING Thinking deeply, the push to be as authentic to an inner voice as feasibly possible, focusing on family, focusing on doing things that improve the mind, learning, being more open and less ego-oriented, sharing your experiences and knowledge – these are all important markers of early old age. I’m 64, but some say 50 can be considered early old age. And then, of course, there’s the “R” word and financial considerations. What kind of lifestyle erupts when the full paychecks and/or client receivables start dwindling? And inevitable health issues come into the picture like a lightning bolt. You can feel the changes occurring deep inside, and you hope for the best and try to do the right things with regard to your physical and mental well-being. But you know, anything can happen at any time – just not today please. You wake up feeling good – life is good – still relatively strong – that cup of coffee or tea feels good, man. Ah! The sun is coming out; the sky is showing streaks of red piercing through the light gray clouds. It’s a beautiful morning. You sip and feel content – maybe make yourself an egg sandwich or have a bowl of berries with some walnuts and a banana. You turn on the early morning news – more bull shit politics emanating out of the worst presidential administration you can remember – worse than Nixon. You shake your head in sorrow, hoping things don’t spiral out of control into some kind of bloodbath looming on the horizon, seeing all those folks, many of whom are the same age as you, cheering on a compulsive liar and fear monger. How truly sad. “Wake up,” you mumble under your breath at the TV screen. “Come on, man – how can you believe anything this man says?” Perhaps there will be a mass protest like never before – will you participate? Perhaps you should. One thing’s for certain – you’ll be voting soon, and hope fills your heart.
Ah, a wonderful bit of prose. Would you kindly like to provide a small list of the “lies” that you have found so that we can have a nice friendly discourse on the subject? Innuendo or rhetoric does me little good for I am a person of research and a bit of an empiricist so when a mere word or two meant to vilify someone are supplied without the proper primer in which to do the research, it makes it rather difficult to verify. Edit: I just read your post regarding rules for Non-Fiction writing and you did forget rule number 11. Always provide reference points and proof of key items included in your article. Without the necessary proofs the article remains as fiction due to unsubstantiated information. No non-fiction writer worth his salt would dare produce something deemed as fact without the necessary qualifying factors.
By george, I disagree with your unsubstantiated , vile name calling, as well. "The Hope....you can't handle the Hope!"
Well the post about non-fiction writing is based on experience. Take it or leave it. BTW, most of my pieces, you will find, are pretty much based on citations to facts and research - this one, however, was based on experience. It really looks like you did not read the entire piece.
regarding the hope piece, I don't feel a need to create a list because it has been repeatedly reported and proven over and over again - all that's needed is to pay attention.
No sir. I do submit to you that it has NOT been repeated by anyone other than those who subscribe to rhetorical trash. You have reported that you are a non-fiction writer and as such I need the substance of what you propose to be true. I expect nonsense from nonsense writers but you sir, proclaim to be a writer of truth and truth has to be either overtly recognized as such by all onlookers or it is deemed as false, or must be substantiated with empirical facts. Now, if you cannot provide said proofs, then however much I may like the base substance of your post it is still a thing of fiction and imaginary at best. If you will, do pretend that I have never heard or read the decrees that you write about and provide something of value that might offer up some evidence to back up your proposed truths.
Okay, you made your point. I've been writing non-fiction, and getting paid for doing it, for more than 30 years - so, as I said, take my experience-based advice how you see fit. I don't need to prove anything with regard to this particular piece.
But, I do humbly submit to you sir, that you wrote it with full confidence of your convictions and I simply wish to know from whence that confidence is derived? Is it something you just heard or read from someone else who did little or no research or did you do the necessary studies on your own in order to write your piece? If it is the former, I do understand that it might come from someone you admire hence do not feel the need to substantiate his or her remarks and / or work. But do understand, there are good physics people out there who are still trying to verify Einsteins work even though he was a remarkable man. If the later, I would still like some reference points in order to judge whether your remarks are only opinion or that of absolute truth or perhaps, like Einstein, you are merely a theorist as well.
Okay, if you are referring to the hope piece, it all started with the false claim concerning President Obama's birthplace - then there are hundreds more false claims that I'm not going to waste time listing here. How about just recently him saying there were middle easterners in the caravan and then saying there's no proof of that. And then that number of 40,000 jobs being created from the arms deal with the UAE that has suddenly grown to one million jobs..... I'm done now. Best wishes.
But, you can’t be finished. Obama’s birthplace is still in question so that isn’t anything that I can deem a lie or truth. You do know that you and I MAY be birds of a feather but since I have laid no claims but you have, I wish to know why YOU believe the way you do. Where do you get your information so that I too may see it and know it? Let’s see. In regard to the 40,000 jobs expansion to a million; toothpaste for example takes chemists, tool and die people, plastics specialists, promotion specialists, insurance adjusters, lawyers, lobbyists and thousands of employees for manufacturing not to mention the truck drivers, packaging professionals, shipping agents, fuel station attendants, tire manufacturers and truck manufacturers so it could well be said with a certainty of truth that it takes about a couple hundred thousand folks to produce toothpaste. Now, do please be a good “research and non-fiction” writer and give me your “research” so that again, I may be as well informed as you obviously believe yourself to be. EDIT: If I had proposed the same thing from a “Flat Earther”, any one of them would provide me with a myriad of reasons they believe the earth to be flat. As it is, you @George Lorenzo, a non-fiction research writer have provided me with nothing of substance in which to form a well informed base for thought.
As to the bolded section, all I can say is that Obama has been out of office for several years, and you need to just let it go. Let it go. It was 8 ugly years but we survived and now have the right man in the Oval Office for approx. 6 more years.
