I'm seeing and hearing E.D. commercials more frequently than ever these days. Does this mean that more men have this problem than before? Hal
I think Viagra is now generic, so it is cheaper now. Ironically, I have seen far fewer ED commercials. I haven't seen a Cialis commercial for over a year.
Not necessarily although male infertility has allegedly been on the increase. The main reason for more ED commercials seems to be that, in contrast to earlier times when there was no medication at all ( I think that's what Hall may have meant with "before", Frank), there now is medication that needs to be marketed more recently also including online consultation and discreet delivery. OTOH, ED has become less of a stigmatised condition simply because the problem is being addressed in commercials.
I know that correlation is not cause having said that. There is more ED than before it seem to have started in the 1950 and grown from then. One thing happened in the 1950’s the phobia against cholesterol and everyone was told to lower it. Cholesterol is the building block of all sex hormones these hormones need cholesterol. This is also the same time Alzheimer increased same reason. How many coincidence are needed before it is questioned?
In your case, it’s probably because your brain is more aware of it. Just a month ago you were asking what E.D was and I do believe that many folks were more than willing to educate you on the subject hence, a new awareness of the commercials.
Ive heard the opposite...that statins reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s. I don’t know about ED and I really don’t care too much about that. I think a lot of Alzheimer’s is hereditary because there isn’t a single person in my family who had/has it.
No alcoholics in my family either...so don’t know. My husband’s side had a few...not my husband but his dad and brother. They lived in Hungary so I really don’t know much about their health history.
When you think of what drink actually does to you, I think there is a connection as there are different types of dementia.
I have to agree that alcohol does play a large part in many neuro-based diseases not to exclude the fact that the whole body chemistry is screwed up by over indulgence. Just to bring things back to the ED thing though, no matter what anyone may think at the time, a drunk person definitely does not make a good lover and from what I have read and heard, a drunk guy is more apt to need whatever an ED commercial may be selling.
There appears to be a genetic tendency in Alzheimer's but there is a correlation between statin use and the rate at which dementia progresses. Since the brain is one of the largest concentrations of cholesterol in the body, artificially lowering is probably why this correlation exists. I don't think low cholesterol contributes to ED (at least not that I have read), but atherosclerosis does make ED more common, as does(apparently) general aging. It may be that there are more seniors in existence now, thus more demand for ED meds. More women are on some form of hormone replacement, too, so it may be the men trying to keep "up".
I was on statins for a short while, I stopped because I literally couldn't think straight, may have been coincidence but not willing to chance it after that experience. I now take plant sterols
My Son in-law and his mother are on Lipitor. Think heart disease runs in his family. My SIL is 50 and has no side effects and that’s the only med he takes. His mom is in her 70’s and very active...and sensitive to most meds but has no trouble with Lipitor. I think no matter what med you will have people that cant take it and people it doesn’t affect at all..it’s your choice or call. My baby sister got her PhD in drug research, specifically the ones related to the heart. She said the benefits of statins outweigh the risks for those that need them and are at risk. So if I needed it...I would take a statin.
