Let's Face it----There are a lot of Nut Cases out there that will conspire without Social Media. Blaming Social Media and the Billionaires that were industrious enough to create it is nothing but a Cop Out.
Yeah, but... the internet and social media makes it exponentially easier for nutjobs to find each other. Technology is at once a blessing and a curse.
But you'd have to know who to call. On the internet, lunatics are just a google away. Type in your brand of crazy and voila'.
Social media has become one of the few ways for people to get news and information that hasn't been filtered or utterly suppressed by the mainstream media. Yes, you have to consider what you want to believe, but that's true of the mainstream media, as well. However, if we depended on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, or the Washington Post to tell us what was Trump has said or done, or what's going on in the country, we wouldn't have a clue as to what the truth was.
The main street media is own or controlled by billionaires so you are hearing what they want you to know. Social media is your next door neighbor telling you what he knows. The MSM can tell you what is going on in Antarctica knowing quite well you can not go there to check them out so you will except it. If they want to tell me something is going on in London and we have many people living there who can walk outside and say that is fake news. I believe those people over the MSM. Of course you have the nut jobs who are what the MSM love to try and discredit all of the social media. Our greatest advantage is logic and common sense to see what is fake.
I don't blame social media for the ills, more like instant notification that another ill has erupted some place. What we do with the information is on us.
Not "all" of the ills, but their fair share. There have been numerous crimes done, due to social media. I have a classmate who's wife would darn near put everything she done during the day onto Facebook. If him and her were going to go somewhere, and she was posting something on Facebook, she state what time they were leaving and where they were going. Law enforcement calls this "crime of opportunity", because criminals look thru Facebook posting just for this. People don't give it a thought about what they are posting and get into trouble for it.
True and that's why my classmate/her husband made her understand what she was doing and not to do. But, back in the days before Facebook, this wouldn't happened.
I have never been on face book because I knew it was lifelog a CIA scam to get everyone information. You can not condemn a thing because it can be misused, example a knife is great to cut your meat for dinner it also could stab you so is the knife bad or how it is used.
But that's kind of the point... users ARE social media. So their stupidity, hate, insanity, etc. can be freely dispensed. Social media gives platform to most people who'd never have had an "audience" without it.
