What passes off as normal in some regions of the country, seem insane to others...

A frog is blocking cleanup of areas devastated by the Camp Fire in California.

You would think this should have been considered prior to the start of cleanup... not during.

It still, imo, does not reach the level of absurdity regarding Salton Sea, which was nothing more than a manmade accident, which now must be maintained at a cost of hundreds of millions. Nothing like man altering the environment and then claiming the end product as "natural" and requiring preservation.

I was unable to read the article as a giant banner inviting me to subscribe to the Sacramento Bee covered it up. But it sounds interesting, Harry.

It is my understanding that environmental laws and regulations are some of the principal reasons the California fires get so big so quickly. I have interviews with people who were not allowed to cut the dry brush around their homes or even trim the grass due to some endangered thing or another. Dead trees are left standing in large numbers to provide homes for endangered species. I have wondered what those endangered creatures do when their homes and environments are devastated by the larger-than-natural fires that occur due to a combination of fire suppression and nature "allowed to go wild". We had a fire here some years ago that could have been stopped early, but it would required bulldozers to cut firebreaks. The State stopped the dozers due to "the possibility of endangering the salmon spawning areas". The fire burned 37,000 acres and 350 homes...and the environmental damage to the salmon streams was catastrophic due to runoff from the burned-over forests. All to preserve the environment....
