Not at all, @Frank Sanoica. Have you never admired the accomplishments of a person whom you didn't personally like? I have experienced often in life. Accomplished people are not always (or even often) fine people. I never thought the Republicans would allow Trump to run under their banner, but they were not willing to rig the system, as the Democrats did to get Hillary on the ticket. The Democrat nomination process is rigged by design, with "Super Delegates" who can select the nominee regardless of the primary election outcome. Republicans have no such system, and couldn't stop Trump when he won enough delegates. There were, and are, many Republican legislators who dislike Trump and everything he does. Those who hate Trump unreasonably are just as disgusting as those who hated Obama or Bush.
I don't know why you read so much into my words, Frank. I don't believe I could make myself any clearer, and I'm certainly NOT denigrating myself. (Others are too happy to do that for me.) Putting it simply with regard to Trump, I can appreciate the results without respecting the individual. I don't know why people can't respect the office of the president. I despised Obama but I didn't behave like a demented person, spewing hatred. I just waited for his term to be up and got on with my life.
On politicians and presidents I've said for many years, they are all the same for the most part, lie for what they need to get done, take what they need to take for this or that lobby, politics are for sure Strange Bedfellows and I can understand why some don't go near the subject. And as I recall DJT changed parties, didn't he? And Obama did a lot of almost volunteer work to help bring those up from despair. Can you see DJT do that work? Yes, he has hired a lot in despair to work in his multi million projects and let them go at times too. And MANY maybe MOST not citizens of the this country. Who knows, only DJT.
Many times in political discussions, people simply parrot things they have "heard" and choose to believe. Once a person actually searches for facts and comes to their own conclusions, opinions may change. I want to believe that every man who has held the office of President actually did have the best interests of this country at heart.
I am pretty sure that if he had violated any tax laws, charges would have been filed long before the 2016 election. Otherwise, if whatever he did was legal, then evasion is a misleading word to use. No one should pay any more taxes than they have to pay, and if there are legal ways to avoid paying a tax, then the tax is not owed and he'd be a fool to pay it. People who have never owned a business are easily misled by a business owner's tax obligations. When I was co-owner of an ambulance company, we took in more than two million a year. To someone who's earning $15 an hour at a 40-hour-a-week job, that might sound like a lot of money, but once you've factored in the cost of ambulances, disposable and non-disposable equipment and supplies, ambulance maintenance, salaries, insurance, office supplies, utilities, and the rent for four or five apartments or buildings where we could station crews in order to provide good coverage to our service area, there wasn't a lot left over. Some weeks, we couldn't even pay ourselves.
You do realize Trump doesn't sit at a desk & fill out his taxes don't you? If he was failing to pay don't you think the IRS would be all over him like white on rice. The unfortunate truth is wealthy people have tax experts to find & use every legal deduction available. Until that is changed the only reason to be nosy about the taxes paid by another is because the hype about it gets attention away from doing the work congress is supposed to be doing.
Yes and even unwealthy people have tax people to find every loophole possible. I know the wealthy get away with money borrowed from everywhere and hidden in places in other parts of the world. And we must not forget how it all started, his father's money.
@Ken Anderson You left out Unemployment Taxes on employees, both State and Federal, but good job, anyway! Frank
As I understand it, Trump is pilling the Office of the President, the most stressful job in the world, as a volunteer. He was told he has to accept his salary, but last I heard he was donating his salary to charity causes.
I went back to this post to ask what you were taught. You began with an NPR segment on Trump and tax evasion. I found this May 8, 2019 NPR report. Is this the NPR segment you are referring to? President Trump Defends Himself Against Report He Did Not Pay Taxes For 8 Years May 8, 2019 4:14 PM ET ARI SHAPIRO, HOST: President Trump is defending himself against a New York Times report that says he sustained more than a billion dollars in losses in the late '80s and early '90s. The Times based its report on summaries of federal taxes Trump paid during that period, but Trump said today that reporting big losses on your taxes is common in the real estate business. NPR's Jim Zarroli explains. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/08/7215...ainst-report-he-did-not-pay-taxes-for-8-years While interesting not relevant since The IRS has a max in some cases 6 years to file charges. Using any year in the early 90's exceeds that time frame. Not sure what your medical expenses have to do with Trump's 80's & early 90's taxes. Are you relating using your medical bills to legally claim medical expenses on your taxes?
Trump didn't evade taxes...he just evaded REVEALING his tax returns, which is his choice! His tax returns are nobody's business but the IRS. How would Public Knowledge of his tax returns affect his dealing with important issues facing the Country? It's none of the Congress or the American Peoples' business, so we should all SHUT UP and let the President do what he was elected to do. Hal
