Why try to change someone's mind though, maybe that's where it goes wrong
Putting your view is fine - by me anyway and if you don't agree that's fine too. Think you gotta know when to call it quits though
otherwise it goes on and on and on ………...

That is exactly what I think as well, @Patsy Faye . There is no way that any group of people are going to agree about everything, and very unlikely that arguing about it is going to change anyone’s mind, either.
I think that the main things are that we should be able to express our thoughts and ideas without being offensive or ridiculing anyone else, and we should also expect that same consideration back in return.
People can disagree about a lot of things and still remain friends as long as they are considerate of each other, and genuinely care about the other person’s feelings.
I like how @Ken Anderson puts it in the guidelines about trying not to be offensive and also trying not to find offense when none was intended.

Unfortunately there are some unnamed groups (unnamed by me for this thread) in society that just won't accept the "I don't like" words. They keep pushing to try and make everyone "like" what they are about.

Then you're best to call it quits on that one

There's nothing wrong with trying to change someone's mind about something that you think is important either. Our religious, political, educational, and health systems are built on that premise. Most of us do change our minds about things over time, and other people play a part in this. If expecting someone to change their mind is a fruitless endeavor, we'd be overrun with firemen, since we're often told that every boy wants to be a fireman when he grows up. I changed my mind about that when I became a fireman and learned that it was a lot of work, interspersed with long periods of tedium and boredom, not to mention that it's not a lot of fun fighting a fire in Texas when the temperatures are already in advance of a hundred degrees.

Its a fair point - but if the receiver is getting niggled by keeping on at them - it just ain't gonna work

My mom always told me a little story about trying to take away something dangerous that a baby or toddler has gotten ahold of. She said that they will hang on for dear life if you try to tell them it is bad and take it away from them.
If you hold out something that is enticing, but safe for them to have, they will usually drop the old thing and grab for the new one as soon as they see some value in having that instead.
Seems to work well for a lot of things in life.....

    @Patsy Faye

And I sense the previous flood of hypocrisy which went full-circle awhile back is seeping in through the cracks.........

When you get to be our age our opinions are not likely to change nor are we likely to change someone else's'
The best we can do is state the reasons why we believe what we do and or why we disagree with those with opposing views.

I can't imagine why anyone would ever disagree with me but I just have to realize some people aren't very smart.

Most of my adult working life was spent in the sale of employee benefits & varied investment products. Employers & employees usually had to undergo changing their minds as to whether or not they could benefit.
Sales of cars, homes, etc. can bring about a CHANGE OF MIND.
