I was sitting in my kitchen yesterday, pitting strawberries to freeze. I had my Kindle tuned to Tropicalglen.com listening to old country music. A lot of the songs were about men loving women that they can't have or lost. One of them was "Don't ask me why." It's about don't ask me why I love you. That caused me to ponder another imponderable question. What makes a man love a particular woman and not another? It can't be beauty. It can't be sex. Some of the most famous women who have captured a man's heart have not been beautiful. Nobody can ever accuse Wallis Simpson of being beautiful.Yet Edward loved her enough to give up a kingdom for her. Camilla is not beautiful but Charles loves her. Cleopatra was not beautiful yet she captured the hearts of many men. I had a friend who was plain almost to the point of ugly. She was married to a drop dead gorgeous man. He had died when I knew her but, looking at pictures of them together, it was obvious that he adored her. So, what is it that makes a man love a particular woman?
First it's passion (generally speaking) then love follows as you began to know this person. Some say beauty is only skin deep or secondary to other qualities the woman may have. Or something like that. I have seen some beautiful women with some ugly-double men and wondered.
@Shirley Martin My guess would be that the 'other ' person can fill a void missing in a person- emotional- intellectualy, or spiritually that a previous or current partner has not ever managed to fullfill..knowingly or unknowingly. I could elaborate more, but this is my general idea.

I knew of a woman who some would consider plain - she had a great personality, with intelligence and an air of confidence - not overly confident, just right. Men would flock to her side which irked my sister who considered herself a 'great beauty' So to me, that was the difference between them, my sister had little to offer compared to the other lady. A shallow man would choose my sister, which was often the case. Inner beauty does shine through and is very attractive to a man that shares that quality
Sometimes the puzzle pieces just fit together. Someone once told me that opposites attract, and people seek out someone who is not like them. It is a biological/sociological concept which broadens human horizons.
Attractive women are always higher maintance. Jane Fonda was asked- how do you stay looking so young? I have good genes, and a hellva lot of money..For once at least she was honest.
