@Bobby Cole I understand your reference to "the books"; it simply brought back the memory that I had read long ago: the monetary cost to society (the taxpayer) is higher to successfully follow through to completion the death sentence than it is to incarcerate for life. This I fail to understand, as I fail to understand much of that which is tinged with "political" influence. Cases are on record where individuals were on "death row" for many years, the finality then being carried out. Many years ago, the cost of incarceration was estimated to be $50,000+ per year. To house, feed, clothe, and accommodate some human P. O. S. That, I also fail to understand. Frank
So, you just opened the thread so that everyone could nod their heads like some bobble headed idiot and agree with everything you wrote? The absolute arrogance which assumes that everyone must agree with you like a 4th grader listening to a supposed educator is way beyond pomposity. Isn’t it you who complained that no one answered your posts? And, since we’re way off topic, what the heck is wrong with the Princeton debating team?
I'm trying to imagine what is wrong with that. RHETORIC [ˈredərik] NOUN the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.
Well, I might be coerced into....oh wait, just a minute. I got it. No, uh....yeah well maybe or....... Do we get a do-over? More Rhetoric and what’s more, I want more pompous Rhetoric.!! ......uh.....rhetorically speaking of course.
In the days of Ancient Rome, a person was only incarcerated because they were awaiting to stand in judgement and sentenced. Rarely was it “time served” even if they had spent a couple of years in the dungeons. After sentencing they had no time for a last meal or hanging at daybreak because the sentence was carried out almost immediately. Or, they were released.
This is why I always say opposing viewpoints is what keeps America oddly balanced. In this case, not everyone dies and not everyone gets off free. However, if I were a murderer, I would simply choose to kill people in a state that doesn't have the death penalty. If I were in Texas, I would be hiding my crazy till I got to California.
@Bess Barber Ah! A Floridian finally willing to take on the Socialist Republic of our Southwest! (carefully avoiding the naming of names). There could be "meat" here to be chewed! Whaddaya say? Frank
