They have my house insured for a lot more than I think it's worth, too. But if something happened to it, I would rebuild something much smaller and put the rest in my pocket.
I might be delving into Windows 10 for a bit. We bought a new, but inexpensive HP PC a few years ago. I think I upgraded it to Windows 10 a couple of years ago but neither of us has used it more than a few times, since we've both been using Macs for over a decade now. We bought the PC because it was cheap, and because there were a few programs we thought we might want to use that weren't available in a Mac OS. As it turned out, we decided we didn't need those so much after all. However, my wife moved her office to the living room upstairs so that she doesn't have to go up and down the stairs all day. She's getting old, you know. Very, very old. I am thinking of moving into her old office, which was my office before it was her office, and turning my current office back into a guest room. However, while women might enjoy moving furniture and stuff around every week or two, that's a job that I am hesitant to make in any one day. So, what I am thinking of doing is moving our currently in a corner PC down to her office, and set it up. In that way, I can take my time and moving things in to the new (old) office as I need them. While I am a bit shaky on a PC these days, what I do for a living only requires a browser and a text editor, so that's not a problem. If I really wanted to be creative, I could use my Linux (Mint) computer for a while, which is on an ancient Dell laptop, from back in the days when laptops were so big that I'd probably break my hip if I tried to put it on my lap. I fire it up and play with it every now and then but I don't have the same curiosity about different types of OS systems than I once did. I used to enjoy learning how they worked. Now, I just want them to work, and the "how" part is annoying.
Win10 is annoying, but it's fairly stable. My biggest gripe with it is that the automatic updates can't be turned off, so at least once a week overnight my laptop (which I leave on in "sleep" mode always) has been restarted, losing any data I hadn't saved.
Yeah, that bothers me too. One time I fooled Win10 somehow, by persistently moving the update date ahead. It took several weeks of moving the date, and it eventually seemed to quit trying. I finally let it update, because of some security warning, and didn't bother trying it again. Don't know how long it would have lasted.
we use to have window 7. we loved it !! but then the computer eventually died and so We got a windows 10 and i hate it.!!! but we got at a good deal on it ....Its only for our own use anyway. we are not in any kind of business. .. i click on "shut down" every night and if there are any updates it tells you... so i still put it on shut down and then it still does its updates...then it shuts down.... its safer to shut your computer down at night when your done for the day anyway...we have always done that.. by the way. updates are a good thing !!!, And, eventually the updates are few and far between anyway..
I was smiling at your office @Ken Anderson then I thought of my sewing room which is the 4th bedroom in our home believe me when I start a project my sewing room gets so messy it takes me a week to clean it up I used to say it’s a brothel ....it used to be common saying in Aust for something that’s messy . However we traveled around Australia with our caravan 2004...2006 after we sold our home in Adelaide and one of the towns we visited called Kalgoorlie ( Gold mining town) had day tours of a brothel dating back to the 1800’ s the tourist office that gave us the information about the tours recommended it so we went a long So I had to change my saying of being “ messy as a brothel “ cause despite the building being over 100 years old it was spotless it was no different to walking into an very old home ,with lots of bedrooms, with no indication of it being a brothel . We toured a brothel on an "underground tour" in Pendleton, Washington that had still been operating into the 1950's. It even had a chapel. Apparently some of the "ladies" wanted to go to church on Sundays, but, of course, were not welcome. So, the Madam set up a chapel for them, complete with an organ and hymnals.
This is the cash register that I made, and used, when we ran an Internet cafe. Now it holds junk in my office.
