When we first moved into our Florida apartment, there was a security system in it. All of the windows and doors were part of it, along with an emergency push-button device that was connected to the wall in the master bedroom. The windows/doors were on a security pad on the wall next to the front door. The system was still in the apartment, but only worked inside. A "whistle" alarm went off inside if a door or window was opened when the system wasn't shut off. We used the "inside alarm" quite often, especially if we knew we be gone on vacation or nighttime. We really miss the alarm and are thinking of getting a wireless motion detector (1) from Best Buy for $80. It can be sit anywhere, is connected by WiFi to a cell phone and records in 720p video. If the camera picks up any "motion", within the camera's path, it will alert our phone and begin the recording. We can also connect to the detector, by cell, and see the inside of our apartment (from the camera lens). Do you have any kind of in-home security? How does this system sound to you. It does get very good reviews.
Yes we have the Ring doorbell system... Everyone who rings the doorbell. or even passes the door without ringing, sets a ring tone and video off on our phones, even when we're not home. Costly? We've looked at systems like this, but they cost way more than $80. Actually, one system we looked at had to connect to Amazon Echo to work. We just wanted a "standalone" that worked by itself. In the apartments we've lived in, there wasn't a doorbell. When we had our house, it did, but no security system. In having more firearms now, than we did at the house we had, we want some type of security system. Our 2005 Durango has an alarm and, when set, a red light blinks on the dash indicating it's working.
We have cameras outside, but nothing inside the house. We are back from the nearest road and not visible from that road, and we always have a house sitter when we travel, so I don't want it to look like we are spying on her while we're gone. If our dog and cat die, we may not have a house sitter unless it is a "volunteer" who needs someplace to stay while we're gone and we can fully trust. My brother has a fancy system that he set up himself back in Pennsylvania, as he is further from law enforcement than we are here. He has everything in duplicate--two complete 8-camera systems--and the monitors are in separate places. He puts it all on the cloud when he and his wife travel, and accesses it through his phone periodically as well as having a remote that alerts his phone when motion is detected in or around his house.
Yip the Video doorbell 2 is the one we have which costs £139.00 , then it's around £2.50 a month for the video storage

I don't use any sort of alarm. I have nosey neighbors who keep a close eye on everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Home Depot has a motion activated door alarm for $10 if you just want something to make noise if someone were trying to break in. Wouldn't help you if you were gone from the house though.
Looks like we will be going with the Blink camera/motion detector from Best Buy. Thanks for the info. and we'd definitely feel better if we have some kind of security in the apartment. The area we live has very little crime, compared to where we use to live.
We had a whole home security system until the company went digital. We couldn't afford the increase in monthly subscription so we have been without. My son gave me a video doorbell unit that I'm still trying to figure out how to install it. Jeez, whoever writes these instructions
I've been looking for one that just makes ONE brief loud sound and quits and/or turns on a light or two, if someone tries to enter, but no connection to any monitoring service. Enough to scare off mischief makers, but not upset the neighbors enough to call the police.
WE have Motion detector solar lights, back and front and above the Barn. They don't make any sound tho'. but enough to scare off intruders... ..we've also got a pretty basic coded alarm system in the barn . It sets off a high pitch wailing if the door is opened without the correct code being input...
In Britain most alarm systems are triggered by heat detection or movement. You get insects in the detectors and various false initiators. Nobody takes any notice, they just become a neighbourhood nuisance. The ones detected on smartphones are brilliant.
We have cameras outside the facility I live in. When someone comes to the door, that person is on screen and must be buzzed in. Regardless of the hour.
