I hadn't had a hot flash for many months until last night. It was a real burner for about 30 minutes. I thought I was past those burning in Hades days. Male doctors must have started the term "flash" because I have never had one that was a flash. I turned off the back porch light, went on the patio, and soaked myself with the garden hose. I thought after cancer surgery, several months ago, I was past this punishment. I was wrong. How old do I have to get before this stops?
I don't want to ruin yer day, think I'm not the norm with this, but its been 22 years for me and they still keep a coming
@Sami Faye Sorrell Strange that this topic should bring back some memories of an even stranger sort...... When I was just pre-pubertal, high school freshman, I experienced nearly daily some sort of "hot flash" during which my ears and face turned very red, certainly vividly noticeable to any who looked. This lasted a long time, longer if I kept worrying about it. Sometimes just touching or scratching an ear brought it on. I have never mentioned this to anyone before. This continued for several years. At the time, wishing it would stop, I tried to come up with a reason for it. Only possible thing was a few years before, I had nearly frost-bitten my ears playing impromptu football in zero-degree temperature. There is more to it; in 8th. grade I had gotten 2nd. degree burns to my face. That story, known to some long-term hangers-on here, doesn't "fit" right now. No, I am not some sort of "hot-flash" female T-G-er! Frank
I'm 63 now, and mine sort of come and go. After some dental work, I was on tramadol and those made it worse. So does any other advil or whatever. I find I'm best drinking lots of water and not taking anything I don't absolutely have to. Also, after I gave up my huge quantities of coffee and sugar, it got even better. So, maybe play around with your diet, especially before going to bed. Thanks for joining the group!!!
OK then, "Patsy for 2000 Alex" ha ha! I get 67 and that profile photo sure doesn't look any 67. Funny story .. my bestie told me her husband said the old guy across the way saw me one moonlit night on my patio in my bikini drinking chilled wine and cooling down. He said to him, wow she is one built hot chick for being such a mean old broad. Friends husband says no doubt hotter than your best asbestos suit can handle. We all started calling him the fireman. He has no experience with menopausal women and our crematory abilities. Ha ha ha! My friends look after me and it makes living alone wonderful.
Thanks yes a lot of water and good diet with little sugar except natural in fruits and just ONE cup of coffee diluted 3 times with hot water for 4 cups and only in the early morning. Bitter chocolate and a glass of wine on occasion. Yes ibuprofen can cause problems as can poor digestion. I went about a year before cancer surgery and was good until last night. I was out in the sun a lot yesterday and that was probably the reason.
I went through the change at 45...had hot flushes for 6 months, and never another one since... 19 years now... Sorry you're still suffering Sami... but I've heard people say they sometimes never go away..or that they start suffering again in their 70's or 80's...
I was around 50, and thankfully I didn't have any symptoms to speak of. I just kind of breezed right through but I have friends who were miserable for several years.
The picture was taken two years ago when out shopping I don't own a camera as I can't get out and about, too many health problems My face is my Mothers My brain and heart are my own
At 46 I started having them. I changed my whole wardrobe to looser fitting and made sure I had a back up in case I really got soaked. That was when I was working. Presently very rarely do they happen and not so intense. I remember I told my supervisor with whom I shared an office with that women should get disability or sick leave when going through menopause. She laughed.
Ha ha Von - I think you mean 'early retirement' as it can last beyond retirement age - maybe for some of us never-ending @Von Jones
