@Bob Kirk I've said this before, but how totally interesting to be living in Vegas! It's like being on vacation all year!!
@Bob Kirk You did not say how long ago you arrived in NV. Surely not 40+ years ago, as we did. It was an even more wonderful place then, as "mom & pop" places still existed. The Four Queens Casino downtown served sandwiches as well as drinks free, brought to the slot machines. Place was privately owned, purchased by a Math Department head from UNLV after I graduated. Thev Fremont Hotel restaurant had wonderful dinner meals for around $1.99. We loved their Leg of Lamb dinner! Best cheesecake I had ever tasted, anywhere! I had taken over an ARCO service station, corner of Charleston and Jones Blvds., west side. First winter there, cold as could be in that metal building, we were amazed one morning upon arriving to see the mountains to the west plastered white with snow! Who knew? Had thought it was like the Tropics! Overnight one time, the temp. dropped to +12`F! Almost all the wonderful palm trees lining those first miles of Charleston out of the city perished. Red Rock Canyon area, farther west on Charleston, was wide open to the public still, with many Jeep trails, hiking, etc. We once heard a terrible clattering, and there above, looking down on us, was a small herd of Bighorn Sheep! Who knew?? I absolutely loved Vegas then, but today not quite so much. The growth of the area has been astronomical. Frank
We had a beautiful place on the beach on the northwest coast. But sometimes you must do what is the right thing so we moved here to be close to hubby's parents. They were both up there in age and both had failing health. They were both gone within 2 years and we are still here. I love the winters with all the snow but that is all I enjoy about living here. I would much rather be back on the west coast living on the beach again.
We were looking for a place to retire. When we drove down the curved drive lined with double rows of pines and saw the house with a 6 acre lake right behind it we knew we had found our new home.
Oh I knew that one Just taken a look - Eureka Springs I found, such a lot to do and see there - look at this Church - so cute
Blue spring Heritage Centre Sounds lovely - Comprised of beautiful gardens, local history, and a large natural spring, Blue Springs Heritage Center has been a popular tourist attraction for over 70 years. Prior to attracting tourists and Eureka Springs residents, the spring was considered a sacred space for local and traveling American Indian tribes. The history of Blue Spring is on full display with every visit, including historical artifacts, exhibits, and the remnants of an old mill that was once powered by the moving water. The various gardens are also worth the visit, and just over a mile of trails connects the different garden beds.
Close to work, very safe neighborhood, and I love old 2 story houses. Lucky it came on the market when the housing market was slow, in the 80's.
Actually, we had "thought" about moving to Las Vegas, in part because Lake Mead is there, but the temptation of spending too much money gambling was also on our minds. Plus, how hot Vegas can get. Decided against it. Vegas is also very, very populated in and out of tourist season.
