Surely there must be Asian, Black, Hispanic Seniors that could participate in this forum and add some different perspective to the discussions. I for one am Caucasian and suspect most of the membership is, other than one person whose avatar indicates they may be Black.

There's more than one non-white person on this forum who posts regularly... what makes you think they're not posting here?

Not that it matters Holly, but I don't know from reading a post if the author is non white or not.

How do you happen to know we have more than one white person?

There is, and has been, more than one non-Caucasian in this forum, but I don't really know why it should matter to anyone, either way. On an Internet forum, of all places, why do we need to divide into groups?

    Why do you care?

I had lived in Edcouch, Texas, where the ambulance company that I was part owner of was headquartered, for over a year, when one of my employees mentioned that I was "the only white guy in town." I hadn't noticed, but that's me.

Being from Chicago, born and raised, I grew up amongst the most-prejudicial people anywhere in the country! Each race was carefully segregated, as well as Nationality, but of course had to work jobs together, but living areas were strictly set-out with boundaries. Blacks lived on the "south side", Lithuanians lived in Marquette Park, Italians along Taylor Street, Czechs in Pilsen, Poles in Portage Park, Chinese in Chinatown, which was established in 1870 by Chinese moving from California where they were mercilessly castigated. And so on.

All nationalities and races had their place, not forced upon them, necessarily, but by choice. Segregation in living areas seemed by choice, not by force. Still, tensions often ran high, as in the Cicero Riot of 1951:

"The Cicero race riot of 1951 occurred July 11–12, 1951, when a mob of 4,000 whites attacked an apartment building that housed a single black family in a neighborhood in Cicero, Illinois."

The history is universally written wrong: I lived one block away. The family in question never got to move in.

In human skin color there is no black and no white. We are all just different tones of brown. The question was is everyone Caucasian? It all depends on if you define ethnic heritage by appearance or DNA . My appearance earns me 100% Caucasian "white", but my DNA and documented family history says I am 75% other than Caucasian. I grew up seeing the signs, "Whites Only" and my daddy would never enter those places or allow me too. I changed my avatar to a computer art modified photo of me that shows my ethnic features a bit better. Hope that answers your question Lon. See me as Caucasian or American Indian, it makes no difference to me.

    Are you serious?

What difference does it make?

Sorry if this offends, but that has to be one of the most offensive statements and questions I've seen posted on this forum.

Time to get a hobby Lon !

Maybe Lon is a census taker. Census takers ask the question, medical people ask the question, artist ask the question, and newly made friends ask the question. People are curious about facial features and tones of the skins brownness. My parents taught me never be offended, just be proud and answer the question. All this fake outrage is unnecessary and is what promotes hate.

Uh, I do not think you have been on this forum long enough to know the temperament of those who have posted on this thread thus far so saying “fake” anything is an uneducated supposition.

From my "uneducated" life experience the first ones to vocalize an injustice against the oppressed and be OFFENDED are the ones that will not stand up for the oppressed when push comes to shove. I did not find Lon's question offensive. Unnecessary but many times curiosity is unnecessary. I get together on a regular basis with seniors from various ethnic heritage and when new comers join in many times they ask what all our backgrounds are. No one is offended and swapping stories of various cultures and how we grew up, makes for great understanding friendships void of tip toeing around afraid to ask a question because of offending someone. I find it interesting that those outraged don't post real photos of themselves. In my uneducated experience on forums and the internet, these are usually light skinned people that are guilt ridden because of their families past transgressions. The past is the past, let's leave it there and deal with the present which will help shape the future. Being on a forum and interacting with anonymous people for years doesn't mean you know them and who they really are. I don't know anything about Lon and his post didn't strike me as offensive or meant to cause outrage. I don't know anything about the outraged either, but their responses sure were typical of the light skinned guilt ridden. If I am wrong, I apologize!
