It's hit or miss if we get snow.. sometimes we'll get around 3 or 4 inches for several weeks, other winters we don't get more than flurry, and it's wet heavy snow ..but like Bobby said, everything comes to a halt, schools close, trains stop running etc.. This was last year ...
"I got no deeds to do, no promises to keep I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep Let the morning time drop all its petals on me Life, I love you, all is groovy" Living in Peru........................................ Illinois.... Spent 22 winters in Florida, and we missed snow. So.... now... a cozy house... a HOA that clears the driveway two or three times a day... and everything we want or need, within a mile... Not a problem. Love the winter white. ... and best of all, a beautiful fireplace that we use all winter long. We cuddle, watch out the window, and remember the old days up north in New England, back in the 1940's. Oh... one last thing... when the frst snow falls... Tom builds a snowman, in front of the picture window. Life is good!
It's official. We are snowed in. My terrace door to the deck and backyard is blocked with snow half way up, as well as the garage door to the back. Can get out the front garage door, not very far, a open spot in front of the big garage door and to a small clearing north of the garage, so that has to be the job spot for my guys. Shaalee got all her jobs done, being the good girl she is, Micki only one job, as tough as she thinks she is, she picks to be scared at the wrong time, Noah, he's a tough learn, something out of place, no jobs. There is now about 3 feet in the backyard, and banks up to 5 feet on a 6 foot fence. Front isn't too bad, just the usual banks on the driveway. The only things moving right now are the huffs. Oh Happy Turkey Weekend. .
Some of my kin up in Moose Jaw are probably socked in as well. A few of them will probably be out there pheasant hunting or some such. Ya’ll can have all the white stuff you want. I’ll stick to looking at the snow on a Christmas card or on @Holly Saunders pictures.
Then there are those, Bobby, that will say, "The folks in The South can keep your hurricanes, tropical storms and high humidity. We will put up with cold/freezing temps, snow storms and blizzards." Actually, Bobby, that is what Seniors here say.
The real reason more people do not live in the south is that they cannot manage to speak with a southern accent.
If you listen closely you’ll discover that nearly all of them are speaking with a snowbird accent. People with snowbird accents have trouble transitioning to a southern accent but because they really want to live in the south they live in places like Southern Colorado or Southern Wyoming where the snowbird accent is still accepted. You might tell your senior friends that if they can at least say “ya’ll” and say it with a spoonful of grits in their mouth, there’s a place in Florida somewhere that they can try to transition to full southern. Note: Florida is not actually in THE south. It’s just south of Georgia.
Yeah, my understanding is that the Florida School for Transitioning Snowbirds to Southern Living (FSTSSL Unniversity) also teaches Spanish for those snowbirds who wish to move to Arizona and Texas but the Southern California thing is a little different. Even though they might be seniors, when getting ready for S. California life they still have to learn how to speed text and also learn to properly enunciate and interject the word “like” at least 4 times into each sentence they speak. Since snowbirds spend much of their time with gloves on, the texting part is especially difficult.
@Bobby Cole Florida is distinctly TWO states. The north is much like Georgia, as you stated. The south requires Spanish, as you also stated. The divide is slowly moving more north, much to our dismay. Regarding the snow posts, it's 81 here.
Gotta give a little nudge to the French Haitians in S. Florida too but I think a few of them are moving to N.York. Maybe they’re up there leaning how to Bobsled with the Jamaican Olympic team. Now, That’s a rough one to beat! Jamaicans who were practically born on a beach, living up north so they can wade hip deep in snow and ride their bobsleds.
@Bobby Cole I know! It's hard to figure out why they end up being SO GOOD at it! Maybe they have better group rhythm or lack of fear. It is one sport I actually enjoy watching.
