Tehran has vowed to hit American military sites in response to the killing of Iranian military leader Qusem Soleimani. From Singapore to Djibouti and Bahrain to Brazil, today the US operates about 800 military bases and logistical facilities outside its sovereign territory -- more than any other nation. Hundreds of other installations, large and small, exist on US territory. Every US installation -- even every soldier, sailor, airman or Marine -- could be a target. Presumably that could also include US Navy ships at sea, US Air Force planes at airports or in the world's skies, or even US troops enjoying themselves off base and off duty. Is this rhetoric or is Iran earnest. Has Trump opened a can of worms he may find hard to close. So far very little coming out of Israel.. come to think of it.. also very little from Russia.
Soleimani and his thugs were the ones who opened that can of worms. He should have been eliminated at least 2 administrations ago. This last caper was the straw that broke the camel's back. We'll see if Iran really carries out even so much as one threat. As far as the Middle East is concerned, I'd love to see us just up and leave, but that would not resolve anything at all.
That was exactly my response to what @Craig Swanson wrote, too ! The media turns everything around and tries to make President Trump look responsible for something bad, even when he does something good, so it is not surprising that parts of the world who still watch news channels like CNN, do not know what is really happening. Even here in the United States, there are a lot of people who just look at their television to see what they believe, and do not bother do do any actual thinking or checking for facts. This is a classic example. Iran attacks and kills Americans, our president comes to the rescue and stops the attack. Now, people are being told that Trump started the whole thing......... how ridiculous ! !

Unbelievable that some of the Democrats are publicly siding with the terrorist. Even Joe Lieberman supports the president's actions. It is amazing how deep these Democrats are digging their graves. I notice rocket man from North Korea seems to be behaving in silence. Sometimes a little demonstration of real rockets in action is needed. I don't think Iran or even China is foolish enough to start a war over this Iranian commander.
In the politics thread I noted that neither China nor Russia have been heard from. Not even a resolution in the anti America UN condemning the action taken by Pres. Trump. But from the democrats plenty of hand wringing and condemnation. Considering the leaks and anti Trump stance the press & democrats have taken since day one of Trump's presidency seems to me secrecy with only those positioned to carry out the elimination of this mastermind of death is justified.
Someone in Bangor posted that ten Warthog (A-10 Thunderbolt II) fighters refueled at the Bangor Airport today. Bangor is where they sometimes refuel before going overseas. I don't know that this has anything to do with the situation in Iran but, given recent events, it sounds likely. One of the news sites reported that six B-52 bombers were dispatched to a US base in the Indian Ocean.
An interesting thing, the Prime minister of Japan, and all of his cabinet have just resigned, with the PM citing health issues. Since we just had a wonderful peace treaty being signed with the Middle East, I wonder if this is somehow related ?
