I love a good frugal shopper!!! 15 years ago, many companies, including Walmart, gave away free samples. I had a list of online sites I 'requested' samples from. For two years, I never bought any toothpaste or shampoo/conditioner. Got all kinds of free food stuff too! It was wonderful. I will seriously compromise quality for something free.
Von, you reminded me of my old peacoats. I loved that style so much I had 3 heavy wool ones as my only winter coats, one after another, starting in high school---navy, dark maroon, and dark hunter green. Wore them all out. I may get another one now.
I frequently buy myself a gift, but it doesn't have to be at Christmas time. When I was really into Astronomy, the total I spent on Telescopes, Eyepieces, Filters, and GoTo Systems topped $25,000. This 20" Newtonian Truss Reflector, which I had custom built for me, cost over $7000 with the large finder scope. (not shown)
I don’t usually by myself a Christmas gift, because it doesn’t make sense to me. If I need (or just want ) something, why wait until Christmas to get it for myself ? Anyway, this year I guess I did get myself a gift and it was during the Christmas season; so I am calling it a Christmas gift to myself. I was looking at some of the beautiful patriotic paintings done by Jon McNaughton, and one of them was about respect and honor for our flag. It depicts our President, hold a dirty and trampled flag, with what looks like a football stadium in the background. You can tell that the disrespect shown to our flag is breaking his heart, as he tries to shelter the flag and clean the dirt and stains off of it. This really spoke to my heart, because I feel that we (as a nation) have a lot of people who do not love, honor, and respect our flag, or the country and the freedom that it stands for. I found a coffee cup with this painting on it, so now I will start my days with an extra prayer in my heart for our president and our country.
I had a couple of things arrive today...one was a new handbag..I desperately need a new one..I only have 11 now.. a little disappointed that it wasn't as large as I thought it was going to be but it'll still be useful
I walked to the corner store with my daughter without eye liner. I wore sunglasses even though it was overcast with off and on drizzly rain. The girl at the counter thought I had gotten my eyes dilated. I felt foolish.
don't be daft Bess , I don't mean to be unkind, but I think you may be getting this a little out of proportion... it's only eye liner, chances are no-one has ever noticed it on you, never mind without it... . I wear sunglasses in all weathers except rain, summer and winter... ... My sunglasses are prescription, and I prefer them to wearing normal specs outdoors, apart from when I'm driving at night or in heavy rain. No-one gives me a second look...
I have always bought myself a nice calendar, either birds or ducks, this year was ducks, also bought a new mouse, watched all the sales and discounts online for a Google Nest Hub, happy with the price.
Thought I'd give a review of this frying pan in case anyone is interested. I've had it 5 months and used it a lot. Always on highest heat. It will cook pancakes with no grease. You have to be careful not to toss some food out of the pan it's so slippery. I'm careful to only use plastic utensils, don't wash it in the dishwasher, and often just wipe it clean with a paper towel instead. (I figure any germs will get fried next time. lol ) Bought another larger one and threw away all my old Revere Ware skillets. {sniff}
Another thing with those pans. When they're hot do not set them on something cold. They'll warp. I did that.
I feel duty bound to update on the demise of this non stick fry pan. It happened in one incident. I fried some pancake batter that I added a lot of sugar to (just to see if you could fry a cake instead of bake it. ) It burned on the bottom and some sticky black stuff stuck to the pan. It stained the pan, and that was it. No more non-stick where the stain is. I really think it had something to do with sugar. Sugar doesn't melt, it decomposes. But I read last night that, under certain conditions, sugar can decompose into up to 4000 different compounds. Maybe one of those compounds did it? Or maybe its time had come and it was a coincidence.
My Christmas gift to myself is going to be a new hearing aid to replace the one that died about 4 weeks ago. I'm currently dmaxing the use of my Cochlear by using it 24/7/365
