I think the majority of blacks in the US came in voluntarily from Africa as legal immigrants long after slavery. Now if any of those people feel so mistreated they would be entitled to go back. The USA has the greatest opportunity to advance than most countries and that is why everyone in the world wants to move there. There is black millionaires, black doctors, black politicians. black sport millionaires. As a white person I think I would trade paces with them. There is also white people living in poverty.

Plenty of black people have had their businesses defaced or destroyed.

That word fascist is thrown around a bit too much these days. As it the word racist. The dichotomy will not change until everyone admits what the true problem is. As a real southerner from say, Mississippi. Those people know.

True, Lois. Our use of words becomes sloppy. The word 'fascism' shouldn't be thrown around carelessly but the historical examples remembered carefully.

I sure would love to see a citation for statistic Martin. If you are talking modern time, post 1970, yes you may be correct. Prior to that period the vast majority of blacks the overwhelming majority are descendants of the enslaved population
Of course there are black professionals and millionaires, but for the most part they are outliers. Of course there are poor white people, has anyone ever denied that fact?
I just don't understand bumper sticker responses to centuries old problems. If it were simple, one size fits all solution, we would have had equality in May of 1865.

Peter, I think you interpret history to your liking and not to what it factually is. It is a Black problem. They must resolve it in a civilized manner. They've been given more opportunities from administration to administration and as I have said, they've blown it. Their lack of identity is indeed an underlying problem and asserting ones' self aggressively isn't the answer to gaining that. Everything comes down to skin color with them, instead of character and how to assimilate as so many who fled North did. I am not about to go into quoting history or facts from such and such an era. Actually, this isn't the place for this discussion. It belongs at the highest levels with those who have level temperaments and educated minds.

Lois, this may be the best place for that discussion to be found on the internet. I find you guys to be generally level-headed and above average in education. I disagree with many here but that hasn't stopped a good exchange with them. I checked out many other sites for a chance for political discussion and found them all lacking - people just shouting their own position and berating the other for theirs. We do a little better here.

The reason I stated the Dwight, is the fact that it is not resolving the problem here. It also would appear that this discussion is between white folks only. That being said, it is a complex problem that will take some doing to iron out. It is the uncivil actions taking place that are so frustrating for it only adds fuel to the fire.

A century-old problem that is no longer in existence is history, which is something to be learned and remembered, but that's about it. How many of you are still angry with the Scandinavians for pillaging your port cities? For that matter, are we still angry with the Japanese for bombing Pearl Harbor? That's a more recent example and one that affected most of us. Slavery in North America was introduced by the British, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Dutch. The institution of slavery in America preceded the formation of the United States government, which abolished the practice through a bloody war less than a century after the country was established. It continues in some countries today, yet people are indoctrinated to think of the American South when the subject of slavery comes up.

The big guilt trip put on the whites and the victim trip of the blacks.
There is a lot of statistic of fatherless children getting in trouble. This has nothing to do with white people this is accepted by the blacks as a way of life. I live in a country which has the same problem and all the children want to move to the USA because they claim all the opportunities. They sometimes forge documents to get to the USA only to be deported back by the thousands for getting in trouble and braking the law. If you ask one why you braked the law if he is honest he would say well we thought all we had to do is get there and we would be successful but they wanted us to work for a living. So we done illegal things.
Black society has its own problem that they only can solve. I see that some people in places of power want to keep stats quo. The big complaint is slavery they took people from a destitute country with the help of fellow black brought them to a country with opportunity and that it their biggest complain. There was many other people who came voluntarily to the USA under the same idea that you had to work for the person who brought you here until you debt was paid and that might last a generation. Offer the people who complain about being brought to the USA a plane ticket to go back to Africa and see if they will accept it.
Before anyone drags out the race card I am married to a black woman I also help the black community here and if you ask anyone here you will find that they all like me. For about a 5 mile radius I am the only white person. I have also seen the draw backs of helping a society that think different than you. Example a man does a good job for you and you give him double the wage for that day he will not show up tomorrow because his already got that day’s pay.
They lay the guilt trip on the whites because it is easy. The normal population wants to help each other that is why the idea of socialism get its hold. Faced with reality you cannot fix problem that do not want to be fixed they lay the guilty on you for not doing the impossible. Then they want people for something their ancestors did like reparation’s asking someone who never own slaves to pay money to people who were never slaves.
Media is one of the biggest culprits is stirring up this problem they show poor black area and say it is the white fault but never show a poor white area and say it is a black problem of course neither is true.
The whole world is made of people who want to blame someone for their problems it is easier to blame than correct. The media like pitting one against each other.
    White against black
    Gay against straight
    One religion against others.
So on as the people are fighting the owners of this world are still going to the bank.

It seem that the Democrats have changed their tune about refunding the police as they found it was not popular even in the black community and they even want more police. Even Al Sharpton went on the air saying we need more police funding.
could it be the polls changing their minds

And the Biden campaign has been advised to keep quite regarding the Democrat Party's stance on abortion.
The polls have not changed their minds, the polls have changed their campaign season rhetoric.

And no one wanted to Defund the police as you understand it, no one. People did and do want law enforcement money to be diverted to more and better services.
