In one way yes, but in another, not really.
Though the days ahead do decrease with age, with each day we live, we have yet another story to tell.
It is amazing how a single story stemming from a single day as told by an old geezer can last in a young lad’s mind for all the days left in his life. :)

If I've read a post I'll often press like to acknowledge that I have read it whether I've agreed with it or not. We should have other options besides the like button. If one does not care to engage in a prolonged discussion of a subject there should be boxes giving us the opportunity to either find it interesting, boring, hilarious, etc. There are many sites that use this option.

I hit the "like" button when I like what was in the post for whatever reason!

    That's all!

When I first joined, I thought I saw that many "Likes" were to encourage people and to thank them for their posts.

I'll see where a member has Liked every post in a discussion string when there's really nothing noteworthy to them (IMHO), and that's OK. It's a benign form of "We're all winners." There's nothing wrong with a little unbridled positive stroking. At our age, you're not gonna set us up for false life expectations. We already know that the world sucks. This is our respite.

Funny, I am on such a forum and was thinking about this the other day.

    emoticons.jpg

Personally, I would rather not open the door for those negative emojis. It's bad enough reading intentions into the written word that do not really exist without fuming over an annoying pic as a pimple on our comment.

There are times I feel so bad for kids who are forming their identities, and who live & die many times per day over social media responses. Lord help me, at my age I've gotten a little spun up, too...and much of it is likely my imagination or my over-inflating.

    Just my opinion.

Besides, I don't believe this version of the forum software supports those little faces.

    Instead of negative buttons...maybe these..
    Read. Understand . Funny .Sad.
Something along those lines...maybe not that wording.
I think acknowledging a post with have Read is good because then you don't have to hit Like unless you really do.

I WAS an old geezer about three months ago. I had lost muscle from sitting around too much over winter and covid scare. So I bought me some more chickens, a newborn calf and a new weed eater. PRESTO! I am a young cutie again who has to find and load hay, 50lb bags of feed and water. I have a little help from a daughter but she doesn't step in till I say.

We need button options that say
    :
    Bizarre
    Keep your opinions to yourself
    Dislike a lot
I don't really care what you think
    What? Are you crazy?
