This severe November wind storm is like the one that on November 10th, 1975, the storm that sank the ship the "Edmond Fitzgerald" in lake Superior.. Gale force winds in a squall are common during this time of the year up here.. The HUGE ship went down just a few miles from Sault Ste. Marie.. It was a steel carrying ship of 510 feet long.. The crew of 29 were all lost and were never recovered due to the extreme depth of water.. Massey isn't that far from Lake Superior and Sault Ste. Marie.. We go there often for medical appointments.. it is about 200kms (120 miles) west of our house.. The (Canadian) folk singer Gordon Lightfoot made a song about the Edmond Fitzgerald sinking...

I've been reading about the Pilgrims and The Mayflower. My token tidbit of information... The Mayflower was only 100' long and 25' wide, and there were approximately 130 people on board, if you include the crew. (Unbelievable!) But why did they start out in September, thus landing in early November? They spent months on the ship...doing what... just waiting for warmer weather?
