If I were to get a dog, I'd love to have a Schipperke. They are small dogs but they have an almost wolf-like look about them.

Scammers are awful. I've had enough experience with them to avoid them now though. I'm sorry you had to go through that and sorry for your loss. I know how much losing a non-human family member can hurt. :(

All the pictures of dogs in this thread are so cute. If I got a dog I'd love a cute little Chihuahua myself, but I don't think I could handle getting another pet since I'd have to deal with it's eventual demise. I know the phrase it's better to have loved and lost than not at all, but grief is terrible.

I am getting tired out just looking for a puppy! I find one that I think I would like and the cost is way up there. I just can't put $400-$550 into a pet right now and I try to understand that people have to get what they have in the puppy back out, and if that is what they do for a living is raising puppies for others to purchase, I get that, but it just makes it very hard for someone like me to find one. I feel instantly in love with this one puppy, they are asking $400 for it. I emailed them and ask if they would take any less but they replied that others were coming to see it for the $400 dollar price. So, that pretty much tossed me out of getting that little fellow. I did tell them to keep me in mind. It is exhausting and a little depressing at that! So I continue on with my search. Another thing is I live so far north here in Michigan that most of the puppies are downstate or 3 to 4 hours away from me so to even go see a puppy would costs me $75 in gas...so it is a catch 22. I just have to be patient.

I will be going downstate this coming Wednesday to pick up my little girl...born on February 15, 2015. I have not met her yet but have seen pictures and I cannot tell you enough how excited I am bring her into my family. I have been thinking of a million first names for her but decided I am going to wait until I meet her...she is 1/2 German Shepard and 1/2 Golden Retriever. I know I am going from a dog that only weighed 10 pounds to one that will be much, much larger, but I am so ready for her to join my family. In the picture she is the one that has her head on her baby sisters head....a sure sign that she is a loving dog! I have been so torn over the past few weeks since my little Benny died and I wasn't even sure at one point if I wanted another dog...but life just isn't the same since Benny has been gone. Oh I miss him so much and looking at his pictures is still hard to do...but I know that he is in a better place, out of pain, and running through the grassy hills with his first puppy love, my sisters little dog that Benny played with when she was alive still. I was talking to my sister today, she now lives in Florida, and I was telling her about the new puppy and of course we talked about Benny dying..we talked about the first time Benny met her little dog, Gypsy, and from that day forth every time my sister pulled in my driveway Benny would go nuts thinking Gypsy was with her. Gypsy was hit by a car a few years back and you know...if you would say her name, Benny would go to the door and look out the bottom windows, thinking she was here. So, dogs do not forget their first love...because Benny never forgot Gypsy. I would like to think that when Benny passed on he joined Gypsy, paw to paw....running through the grassy and green hills. Thanks everyone for so much support that you have given me through out my ordeal...it has meant so much to me. I will of course keep you posted.... 2015041195133157.jpg

Well, how are things going with the new puppy, Michelle ? I think you posted that you were picking her up on Wednesday; so today is probably an exciting day for both of you as she is settleing in.
Have you named her yet ? ?
She will definitely be large and active dog, and I am sure that you will really enjoy raising a puppy again. They just keep you occupied all of the time.

    Hi Yvonne and Joe,
We named her Bree....but I am calling her Baby most of the time....she is so beautiful and yes, I know she will be a lot larger than my little Benny was that is for sure!! We used to have a Chow/German Shepard mixed so I think she will be at least that big if not bigger!! She is chewing like crazy so I have blessed her with a bunch of chew toys in hope to keep her from chewing anything she is not suppose too. Last night, the first night with us, she started crying in her kennel about 3 am and I got up and put my fingers in the door so she knew I was there...she went back to sleep. I really think she is going to be a good girl...she is doing her business outside with no problems, and she loves my grandchildren. Thank you so much for asking about her...I will keep you both updated....sorry I haven't been on here....seems like I have been a little extra busy of late and now with finally getting my puppy....I hope I can find time to sit and write. Have a wonderful evening...take care...Michelle

My little girl Bree....she is going to be such a good dog. I am having no huge problems yet...she does like to chew everything but I stay close to what she is up too when roaming around...she already has learned what the word "no" means...so that is a plus. She loves her chewy toys so every time I see her going towards something that she might like to take a taste of I tell her no and give her a chewy toy. Bree loves going outside. I think it was the perfect time of the year to get a puppy...no snow to deal with and the temps are warm enough that she don't freeze...by this upcoming winter she will be totally house trained and it should be easy peasy! The only other thing that she don't like is the collar. She continues to play with it....scratching around it. I am hoping she will forget about soon and just deal with having it on. I will be taking her in to see my vet in a couple of weeks.

I think you will be happy with your decision to adopt Bree in the long run. Yes, I know you wanted a smaller dog, but let me tell you a Golden Retriver and a German Shepherd are good nature dogs. Two of my finest dogs over the years were these two breeds. They seem to be easily trined and are very loyal dogs. Nothing will ever replace the beloved dog you lost, I now that from personal experience, but having a new dog does help fill that empty void that is there when a dog isn't in your life.

I so agree! Bree has been such a pleasure so far and I can only see that it will get better once she stops chewing my toes off!!! Seriously, she is a loving dog and she has taken to my husband and I as her parents already. Bree has been so good about doing her business outdoors and for being only 9 weeks old I have to say I have a very good puppy. Bree finally started to bark, which she didn't do right away. I just happen to put an empty plastic pop bottle on the floor and she started batting at it...and then she started barking at it! It was so cute....why do dogs love pop bottles so much? I hope it isn't a bad thing for her to play with...if so, it will be taken away because I do not want anything bad to happen to my new baby Bree. I have started a bad habit of letting her sleep with me on the couch when she gets up at 2:30 a.m. to go outside....I bring her back in and lay on the couch with her...she of course goes back to sleep and so do I....this morning we woke up to SNOW!!! I mean, it is getting ridiculous that winter just don't want to leave us here in Northern Michigan. I have to work a midnight shift Thursday night so that might be a challenge for Bree not having me home all night. My hubby better prepare himself that is all I know. Bree is getting along really great with my grandchildren, she plays, chases after them. I think you are so correct when you say the breed is a good one...so far she is the best dog I have ever had as a puppy. My Benny, the dog that just passed away, when he was a puppy, of course he was no bigger than a teacup, so you had to be so careful with him. Totally different experience with Bree that is for sure! I miss Benny but I do know that he is in a better place now and not suffering. I will post some more pictures of Bree as I take them. Have a wonderful day and thank you for writing...
