I change my avatar every now and then. Although my current one is within a year or three of being current, that will not always be the case, and sometimes I don't use a photo at all. As I have said repeatedly, my strong preference is for everyone to have an avatar but I don't care what it is: a photo of yourself or of someone else, a drawing, a flower, or any kind of graphic, or pretty much anything at all. The forum threads look prettier that way, and I think they're easier to follow when there is something to associate a post with.
I think you establish your identity with your avatar when you first join and afterwards, that is you and you are recognizable at glance, but to each their own.
We are showing our age folks with pics of vacuum tube equipment. Tsk, tsk. Mine was the AN/APQ13 radar, once bomb / navigation radar for the B-29 which was later used for weather radar after the war. It was nearing the end of its useful life in the '60's with the dawn of solid state. Very coincidentally, my former neighbor across the street, said he was trained in the same equipment during the war when the radar was top secret, and in the morning before they went to school, their schematics etc, were handcuffed to their wrist in a briefcase when they went out the barracks door to school.
Current avatars requested. Alrighty then. All my avatars are since Nov. 2020 since I turned 70. I am now changing my avatar and I will leave it till 8 AM PST and then change it to my failed attempt at being glamorous on my birthday one and that one will remain until I get back from my semi-annual glaucoma testing (about 10 AM PST) and then back to my ugly hat ranch girl going to meeting one that will be my main avatar. Late sleepers will be weepers hahaha!
