Burger on a homemade bun. They ended up being a weird size 'cause I had to scrunch them to fit in the toaster oven. Not the best burger bun recipe in the world (from the King Arthur site, no less.) I'll keep looking. But they'll still get eaten.
I made a lentil soup with rice, and some of that flatbread that is made using just self-rising flour and yogurt. I made it a little thick, and it is chewy and reminds me of eating an English muffin. This is a picture of the last one (I made 3 from the dough), although it has been nibbled on because I had some with cranberry sauce on it for a dessert.
That looks good. I've spun through a bunch of naan recipes--some made with yogurt and some without--and landed on one that I really like, when it's cooked on the grill. It takes an effort for even half of them to make it inside.
You have a lot more dedication to your cooking than I do, @John Brunner . If it looks simple, then I will try it, but if I have to fuss with it, then I just do not bother. I look at the recipe videos on YouTube and there are some that really look good though.
Naan is pretty basic, but the recipes are all over the place. When I try something new, I really beat it to death. Here is my comparison of the naan recipes I tried so I could create my own if I chose to. I was mainly interested in the ratio of wet-to-dry ingredients: There's one heck of a range on wetness. I've done (and shall continue to do) a similar thing on other recipes when I'm trying to cobble together my own version when I can't find one as-is that strikes my fancy.
Was outside doing firewood again. It's supposed to get wintry-cold next week, so I'm getting a jump on it. Once again, it made me want soup. -Chicken noodle soup (the cheap Campbell's kind) -PBJ (finished up the last Blueberry Preserves from a church sale) -Crisps
My nurse came today to do some blood work so I had to fast. She came at ten and didn’t leave till quarter till twelve, After she left I had a cup of coffee and a baloney and cheese sandwich? Ugh! I’m getting tired of baloney sandwiches. Guess I could have had soup.
I'd at least switch up with turkey sandwiches every once in a while. Living alone, I don't go through a whole lot of lunch meat, so I put one or two servings (turkey/ham/roast beef) in plastic bags and freeze them. It thaws pretty fast (in a bowl of water, in the fridge, or a short trip in the microwave) and the quality does not degrade much...and I get a little variety in my diet. Most sliced cheeses freeze well, also. For convenience sake, I'll sometimes buy veggies already cut up (carrots, broccoli, celery, etc) and keep a thing of chip dip on hand to have them with. The benefit (and convenience) of the veggies offsets the minor downside of the dip. I'm funny about not eating the same thing over and over. Heck, I skip a day to eat leftovers because I don't like having the same lunch or dinner 2 days in a row. I'm weird that way.
