The part of town you don't want to leave anything hanging around or walk around in the dark.

That nice fence in your pic would probably last a few days before someone stole it and sold it for scarp I've had two catalytic converters cut off my car in the last few years,

A prison cell could shelter bone and body too Pete and guess some think that's a pretty good deal.

    I own my place outright.

Real estate taxes + homeowners insurance = $150/month or so.
I recently applied for the "I promise to not develop it" real estate tax break, and cut my taxes to less than half.
But I still got upkeep expenses, utilities, etc.

Groceries continue to be my #1 expense...by far. I've not been inclined to figure out why, since I don't spend money on alcohol or sodas or prepared food (heck, I mostly buy house brands), and cooking is my primary hobby.

I've been online and looked at the cost of various elderly support situations, and the total-cost spread between Lon's 7 x 24 x 365 situation and other options (where you pay for your own lodging, meals, medical care, etc) is not all that much.

This is the Monthly Cost comparison for the Charlottesville VA area I posted in The Cost of Senior Living Facilities thread:

-Homemaker Services: Clean house, make meals, run errands ($4,600)
-Home Health Aide: Extensive in-home personal care ($4,900)

-Adult Day Health Care: Community-based center for daytime only assistance ($1,700)
-Assisted Living Facility: Full-time residence facility, one tier below Nursing home ($5,800)

    -Nursing Home, Semi-Private Room: Self-explanatory ($6,700)
-Nursing Home, Private Room: Self-explanatory ($7,300)

Of course, different areas will have differing prices. Charlottesville's costs are probably somewhere in the middle.

    It is insane.

The trick is to die before you run out of money. I just talked to my financial advisor, and I'm good until next Thursday...
