This morning, I was processing some tofu to try making a vegan salad dressing, and I noticed that my little Ninja food processor was not working well. I decided that it was time for a different one, so I looked on Amazon and found a smaller size, inexpensive one and ordered that, and then found the same thing cheaper on Walmart, so cancelled the first one. The new one has the chopping blade, plus the disk for making slices and shredding. I have the Veggiebullet which spiralizes, slices and shreds, but it does not chop like a food processor, and it takes up too much room to keep on the kitchen counter. This smaller one will do all of that except spiralize, and I have found that I do not need the spiralizer a lot anyway. My thousand island dressing came out really well, so I want to start learning how to make more of the vegan recipes for things that I have used that have so much mayonnaise or oil in them. Plus, I always need chopped, sliced or shredded veggies for salads and stuff like that.
So what do you all think of this: Here's a video: https://d2y5sgsy8bbmb8.cloudfront.n...rm-Generic-480p-16-9-1409173089793-rpcbe5.mp4 It's flexible silicone (not rigid plastic), so it molds to fit any diameter pot or pan. Everything else I use is fine to drain the big stuff, but pasta noodles always escape around the sides (unless I dump things into a colander.) $16 at Amazon.
Cool! I use one of these: I also have one similar to that that clips on the lid. They both let some quantity of the small round spaghetti noodles sneak by.
@Ken Anderson -- You actually gave your wife a plastic thingy for the kitchen? As a gift? As an anniversary present, perhaps? (Just kidding ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I gave my wife a vacuum cleaner for our 1st anniversary. Baaaaaad idea! The problem with "learning-from-experience about the female of the species" is that you get the mid-semester exam BEFORE you are given the lesson.
Not for any occasion, just because it might be handy. When I come across something I think she'll like, sometimes I'll order it and have it sent to her directly.
LOL!!!! I had a friend who bought his wife a wok for their first anniversary. She never let him forget it. I can't find the parody to Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" that has the lyrics "You bought me an appliance?!?!" It is so apropos.
I did buy her a snow shovel for Christmas a few years back. It was an appropriate present because it was pink, and also because that wasn't her real present.
When I was doing my own cooking I loved this way of cooking. It did a fantastic job. A two pound tri tip roast cooked to perfection.
Is that one of those that uses a combination of convection and some type of Infra-Red heat? I've never used one.
Yes and you can use it in any part of your home safely. Does a far better job than the oven or stove and you can view it cooking. Try it, you will like it.
The only offbeat appliance I ever had was a Showtime Rotisserie. It made great chicken, shish kebabs and meatballs. The kebab skewers rotated 1/4 turn with every 360° revolution. If I had a larger home with more storage, I'd have more stuff like this.
I recently bought a pair of these baggie holders: I love them! They've been kicking around in my Wish List for a while and I finally pulled the trigger to get my order value up for free shipping. You leave the arms in the lower position for quart bags, and extend them for gallon bags. The arms swing down for storage. Besides the obvious use, I set the bags up as I'm getting ready to mess with stuff that will leave my hands covered with food. I can immediately put the food into the opened bag without touching it, then wash my hands & seal it. $11 for a pair of them.
