I know nobody other than the warmongers want another major world conflict but even the most optimistic will admit one looks a distinct possibility sometime in the next decade. Here is a video of the military strengths as of 2020 of both a combined China/Russia/OIC and a Europe/ US alliance.

Based on our own record I expect there will be another in the not too distant future. However I think it is going to be easier to bite off more than we can chew in the future.

Unfortunately, our military has become a social testing ground. I don't think it is set up to fight a major war against a real opponent. It has become a vehicle to fight little wars against minor opponents and mess in other country's affairs. Really sad.

Just off the top of my head, I do not believe the U.S. is concentrating on the boots-on-the ground type of combat which to me is a two edged sword.
On one hand, the pursuance of a more technologically based military does help prevent the American loss of life and does match up with other near superpowers such as Russia and China.
On the other hand though, until the day comes when robotics take over as a viable military infantry, the days of man-to-man warfare isn’t over. There are areas all over the globe where technology cannot do what a human combat force can do.
When the time comes, and it undoubtedly will, the U.S. push for a more socially acceptable force will be a disastrous venture at best.
When soldiers and their training is more concentrated on sexual orientation or if they are racially balanced then the mental and physical aspects of wrecking things and killing people and coming out alive is on the black burner instead of at the forefront.

And let’s face the real facts. Wrecking things and killing people IS what our military is supposed to be able to do.
Figuring out what to do with one’s pee-pee is not.

At it's core, it's all about what those in power want it to be. "American" politicians did everything they could to hinder success in Vietnam (and the sandboxes) and to increase the body count, for various reasons. I can easily see the people who are currently in power get us into a conflict with the specific intent of having us lose to another country. "Our turn" (whatever that is) is over.

If you use the theory of a chess game where you are having two groups fight you are being miss led Like WW2 for example many American millionaires/billionaires were on both sides of the conflict so no matter who won they did. We are drawn to find an enemy us against them and missing the real enemy. Like the chess board it is black against white but the real winner is the person who owns the chess board and pieces. The elites have us fight so they can put more money in the bank. Example the Canadian income tax was a temporary tax to pay for WW1 of course it never went away still paying I think a lot is happening it the world right now that the media is hiding hoping you will not find out. I think when people learn it will be biblical all the lies will be reviled.

    Another two edged sword.
Vietnam was all about sugar cane and rubber and had little to do with stopping communism from spreading. And, as far as body count goes, we vets are still suspecting that there were and are those in government who would have been happier if more soldiers had died instead of coming back disabled and a tax dollar burden.
We, the soldiers, could have and wanted to win but when we stopped bombing Hanoi, our arms limited to be nothing greater than our adversaries had and an order not to shoot unless shot at (which I know of no one who obeyed) we all knew the game was fixed by Washington.

The sandbox? Yeah, I sincerely believe that’s all about making sure who we’re going to bed with in the oil industry.

All that said, when a half dozen or so Iranian gunboats attacked our warships recently and all those ships could do is to lob some warning shots at them, I can see what this administration is all about.

We’re weak because our leadership is weak. Countries like Israel are much better off without the aid of our lackluster near socialite military force.

Man’s inhumanity to man always has and will always exist until the day when we are no more in this world.
As the verse goes in the Ecclesiastical text says, “There is nothing new under the sun”. “All is vanity”.

As we saw in Judges, the progeny of those who fought to be free from tyranny didn’t learn the lessons taught by the past but instead tried to invent their future based on pleasure and greed.
Years passed and they eventually found themselves in defeat and as slaves as it was foretold and as they deserved.

I really hate to think about the number of years we were there, and men lost, due to Vietnam. I truly appreciate it when someone says to me "thanks for serving", because they see my ball cap that has my first Naval ship on it, but, on the other side of that coin, we pulled out and North Vietnam took the South in the end.

As far as what's going on right now, all we can do is pray!

I have thought our military forces are in deep trouble for a long time. The video posted by @John Brunner demonstrates that idea. It is difficult enough for a 180 pound man to pull another out of danger; It is nearly impossible for a 130 pound woman to do so. Women are often better shots than men, but I am not convinced they are better killers than men are. There are many roles in the military than woman can make a great contribution to, but front-line combat, special forces, and submarines are not among them in my opinion. The Israelis tried women in combat and decided to remove them from the front lines when overall casualties rose dramatically where women were involved. Stalin also tried it, but withdrew them from front line combat for undisclosed reasons.

I believe aircraft carriers are the battleships of today. They absorb much of the naval budget, but are outmoded relics of a past military strategy. Our carriers would be mostly sunk in the first few days of an all-out war with China, and the rest would be kept from danger to keep them from being destroyed, as the German battleships were kept in Norway and the Japanese superships were hidden in Japan to keep them from destruction.

That's pretty much an accepted fact in the self-defense community. Women ARE better target shooters than men, but they run the risk of hesitating just that split second too long when it counts (and putting themselves in worse danger.)

Regarding women's superior skills...weren't there a number of female code breakers during WW2?

Women have lots of skills. Like I said, logistics is one place where women outdo men, and an army "travels on its stomach" as well as needing fuel and ammo, etc.

As a related aside, I've played lots of sports in my life. I have always enjoyed watching women's tennis and golf to learn technique because it seems more refined than in male athletes, who rely more on strength and force.

Vive la différence, and screw those who try to eradicate it.
