have any of you read up on these places? Have you signed up on any? Have you used any of the benefits they offer? Do any of you donate to the cause on here? All of the are listed at the bottom of the forum page. Just curious to know if any have found these sites useful?
You have to scroll to the very bottom of the page, @John Brunner . I think that these are some senior organizations that Ken finds when he is doing his research work . The one for help pay the bills is for people who want to help support this forum, because Ken pays for everything.
I had to change the Style from Default to Seniors Only Club to see it. Maybe that's why folks were getting trophies for using the SOC Style
Depending on what a person's situation is, some of these organizations may be able to offer useful resources, if only information. I expect that some of you are members of AARP, and that's one of them. The Maine chapter of the National Council on Aging set us up with a program through another organization that paid for our house to be insulated, including the crawlspace, and, at another time, bought us a heat pump, all at no cost whatsoever to us. I included the ones that are there because they are national, and I added some from some countries other than the United States because we have members from other countries. They have been there for years, except for the Canadian, UK, and Australian ones, which I added a few months ago.
I found the SeniorsOnly.club via a post in an AARP community forum where a disgruntled member was protesting AARP's decision to delete their forum on politics and culture because people couldn't behave themselves. Interestingly, shortly after that post was made, the link to SeniorsOnly.club was bleeped out of the post.
Was that disgruntled member pointing people here as a place to engage in such conversations? That's a high compliment to @Ken Anderson that it's recognized there is freedom of expression here. But since when do people need a specific place to discuss this stuff? Now these things will bleed into every topic they've got. It's better to have a place people can get it out...at least others can avoid it if they choose. Politics & Culture groups are every forum's litter box. People are gonna poop. Give them a designated place. AARP may have just created themselves a moderator's nightmare.
@John Brunner, yes he was, with high praise for SeniorsOnly. And more, I think, he was holding SeniorsOnly out as an example of a well moderated platform that enforces a staying on topic and no name calling ethic. I think it's good that hot button issues like politics and religion have a specific and well labeled section here. Everyone should have a place to express their views, but at the same time not have others' views with which they may have strong disagreement shoved down their throats if not up for debate. Several have note on AARP that the forums there have become boring and that there are fewer posts, and fewer posting, since they removed the Politics and Culture forum.
