Here's the new fridge. It's OK but definitely not a Kitchenaid. :D I do like the double freezer drawers.

I have a huge Samsung double-door fridge with the bottom freezer. I love bottom freezers (cold air falls, right???), but having it split in two like that looks like a loss of usable space.

I lived in my last place for over 30 years. We got a new fridge as a house warming present, and it was still running when I picked up a nicer gently-used one somewhere along the way (it's amazing what people with money give away when they remodel kitchens.) The second one was still working fine when I moved here. So that's 2 fridges from 1978-2010, both of which were still working when I stopped using them.

I bought a new fridge when I moved into this place and it lasted 7 years then took a poop. I knew what the problem was (condenser fan), and drove an hour one-way to the parts place to buy the replacement. I had the Part# with me I looked up on the web, and confirmed it when the counter guy used his reference books. I got home, took the old one out, and the new one had different mounting tabs AND a different electrical connector with a different number of wires, even though they had the identical Part# stamped on their housings (friggin' Westinghouse.) If the appliance place had been closer, I would have messed with it more. But I wasn't gonna make a 2 hour round trip more than once. So I replaced it. The Lowes delivery guy said "Don't expect more than 7 years from them" as he dropped off the new one.

I like the top of a french door, but I HATE digging in the stupid bottom freezer drawer. This setup is much better for me; I can put the stuff I use often in the top drawer and a bunch of meat in the bottom. The 2 drawers are actually larger than my previous fridge; this one has 8.7 cu. ft. of freezer space and my old one had 7.1 cu. ft. in one deep drawer.

ETA--years ago I had a bottom freezer model that had a regular side-opening door like a refrigerator; it was very handy but that style won't work in my kitchen since I have a large island that blocks a wide door from opening completely. I have to have a side-by-side or a french door model to fit.

I have a sorta-small kitchen and this fridge is way too large for it. I don't care. I use the space.

Heck, I'm a single guy with a small chest freezer, and that bottom drawer freezer is stuffed full (as is the chest freezer.)

Yeah, we have a big upright freezer in the garage and another refrigerator/freezer out there, too. We got used to having them with 5 kids and just never changed our ways. The garage refrigerator is where we keep soft drinks, beer, and bottled water.

This was strange. About 3 a.m. I was awakened by a loud "thump" from outside, so I got up to look out the window to make sure no one was messing with my husband's Jeep on the driveway. I was startled to see what appeared to be a scarecrow walking along the sidewalk on the other side of the street. It was so freakin' weird... he had on a big-brimmed hat, long sleeves, long pants, and some kind of Ugg-looking boots. Not a common sight in the Houston summer. I watched as he ambled down the block and out of sight.

I have been craving Panera Bread's Broccoli Cheese Soup for the past week. My husband picked up an order for me a couple of days ago and it was SO good. I decided to find a copycat recipe and make a pot for myself; it should be fairly easy. Of course there were a couple of ingredients I don't have on hand (half & half), so I placed another grocery order and added several other things that I forgot in my last order. I also ordered a watermelon and I hope it's a good one. I get so tired of wasting money on tasteless fruit... ugh.

Oh, and I got some lemons. I want to make a pitcher of real lemonade. It's been a while and that sounds so good.

Not much to talk about today, unless anyone is interested in hearing about sheet-changing and laundry. :D I also did some light house cleaning but nothing to break a sweat over. I get out of breath so quickly these days and my heart rate is just too high. :(

Last night I discovered a Youtube channel that carries a series called My Last Days that features individuals with terminal illnesses. (I know, I know...) I wish I could be as brave and inspiring as they seem to be. Instead I'm angry and resentful and full of "why me??" these days. Had another meltdown last night; I thought those were pretty much done but apparently not. I've never been much good at "acceptance."

I need to go prep the ingredients to get dinner started. I hope the soup recipe will be good; pretty sure I can't go wrong with enough cheese, though. I wish my new chef knife was here; it's out for delivery so I don't have to wait much longer. Funny how acquisition of a new (and totally unnecessary) "thing" can lift the spirits. Kind of a distraction like that "SQUIRREL!!" thing I suppose.

You wouldn't like my answer Beth. I didn't like my answer on my two cancer adventures. The answer being "Why NOT Me?" Has to be someone. Use that anger & resentment to beat this effin thing. I was the second worst patient in the world (Someone Must have been Worse than Me, I hope!)

Well, the copycat Panera soup was uninspiring so I'll be looking for another recipe or creating my own. I think one problem was that I used pre-cut "matchstick" carrots in it instead of chopping fresh ones. The carrots had that kind of "old carrot weird grocery store produce" taste. :p Probably cheaper to just drive thru at Panera now that I consider it.

Heh heh. Earlier I went downstairs to get a cup of coffee and I was having a conversation with my hubby when he suddenly jumped up and ran out the back door. Was it something I said?? o_O

    No.

Apparently he was topping off the pool and forgot to turn the water off. I was able to get in a few "high tide on Lake Gallagher" jokes before coming back upstairs. I did the "forgot to turn the water off" thing a few years ago and after the pool crested, flooding the yard, I wasn't ever able to live it down. :snicker:

Boring day today; it's gorgeous outside but HOT. I got an email from the electric company asking for people to reduce their usage by raising the thermostat a few degrees, not running the pool pump, etc. during peak hours. After last winter's blackout I'm hoping that we don't experience any power outages. We STILL have not heard back on the whole-house generator bid which is frustrating.

I was out in the backyard pulling a few weeds but it's just stifling out there with the humidity. Maybe I'll get in the pool today and paddle around for a bit.
