The Martha Josey to be inducted is Martha Lavaughn Josey. Her father's last name was Arthur and her mothers was James. Her mother was Martha Ann if I remember correctly.

Yes, we will see her at the Induction as well as at the last go-around of the Pikes Peak or Bust rodeo the night of the induction.

Tie-Down roper, Cody Ohl is being inducted as well, but I read this weekend that he is in ICU due to a knee injury that happened long ago. The article I read stated "he is fighting for his life, due to his body functions trying to shut down." So, don't know if he will be at the Induction or not. Cody Ohl, like Fred Whitfield, has always been our favorite tie-down ropers. Today it is, Tuff Cooper. Old "Super Looper", Roy Cooper's son.

We got back Sunday afternoon from Colorado Springs, aka "the Springs" (as CO people call it). Attended the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame Induction and it was great. Seeing 83 yr. old Martha Josey inducted for Barrel Racing was terrific. Meeting, and getting photographs, of all of the Miss Rodeo Queens (each State), including Jordan Tierney aka Miss Rodeo America and former Miss Rodeo America (1973) Pam Minick. Butch Kirby was also inducted into the Hall, being a former PRCA bull rider-turned-PRCA judge. Ellensburg, WA rodeo was also inducted. Cody Ohl (Tie-Down/Calf Roper) was still in the hospital in Texas, recovering from knee surgery. He is one of our favorite ropers, who has now retired and in the Hall of Fame. Great bunch of folks that talked our language (rodeo) and wearing our attire.

Went to the Pikes Peak Or Bust rodeo on Saturday evening, but it was extremely loud. Appeared that most of the people who attended looked like they had just moved to "the Springs" from Los Angeles or NYC. The rodeo was "ok", but wife and I had definitely been to better ones.

In three weeks, we will be in Dodge City, KS for their Western Celebration and rodeo. Seeing the statue of U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon, Gunsmoke fame, and having some fun at the Long Branch Saloon and Casino there. Will get plenty of photos and video while there.

Getting ready for our trip to Dodge City. Have never been there before, not only looking forward to their rodeo, but also going into the Long Branch Saloon, Boot Hill and the casino.

Jose won The Last Cowboy Standing at the Cheyenne PBR after 5 rides. A well-deserved title for a talented and amazing young man!

No, Jose Vitor Leme yesterday at Cheyenne Frontier Days. Best bull riding I have ever seen. Simply amazing!

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) went 5-for-5 over two days at PBR’s Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to win his first PBR Major, out-dueling Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) on a night that showcased one of the greatest displays of bull riding in the history of the sport.

Well, the thread is about rodeo and Cheyenne Frontier Days and Jose Vitor Leme winning with record-breaking scores is big news. Jose is a big name in bull riding. I don't understand why you don't understand why it is posted here on the rodeo thread. Please move it to the appropriate thread. Sorry about posting a no real content post. I figured anyone that knew and followed rodeo would know who Jose is and just wanted to let any interested know about his amazing rides. Maybe anyone interested can catch a rerun on the Cowboy Channel.

Besides Cody mentioned something earlier about going to Cheyenne Frontier Days and being a regular watcher of the Cowboy Channel so I thought he would for sure understand the post.

Sorry, Faye, we don't follow Bull Riding that close. Like I tell most folks "myself and my heeler had our horses already loaded up and headed for home when bull riding was going on."

However, we have followed the Wright brothers in rough-stock riding and Sage Kimzey in bull riding.

Well, will make this as short as possible, but, Dodge City, Kansas isn't as nearly "cowboyish" as we thought it would be. However, there are a lot, and I do mean "a lot" of Feed Lots, crops, cattle grazing and tractors/crop equipment on the outskirts of the city. We passed some mighty big Feed Lots coming into Dodge and a few leaving. I knew what a Feed Lot is, knew all of the crops growing and all of the farm equipment used for those crops.

Off and on for three days, wife and I were the only ones wearing a cowboy hat, Wrangler jeans and boots. Except, our boots were Ariat Hiking ones. More "cowboy" look started showing up when the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo stock contractor and contestants came in on Wednesday. It was very cool that both Miss Rodeo Colorado and Miss Rodeo Kansas stayed at the same Holiday Inn Express we were at and talked to both for awhile.

Like CFD (Cheyenne Frontier Days), once the rodeo is over in Dodge City, the city goes back to being a "city" with a mostly "city" look.

We did go to the: Boot Hill Casino, Boot Hill Museum and a dinner/can-can show there. The dinner and show was fabulous. The show consisted of a lady playing Miss Kitty and her four Can-Can girls. They all danced and sang. Also, seen an Old West gunfight that was most definitely loud and smoky!

Seen the statue of James Arness, aka Matt Dillon and multiple pictures of Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Bat Masterson and others. Big display of Buffalo Bill Cody, General George Custer and Sitting Bull.

At breakfast on Thursday AM, at the hotel, met a 93 yr. old man who, years ago, was a Deputy Marshall in Dodge. He literally knows everything there is to know about Dodge City history and the tv show Gunsmoke. He was friends with Ken Curtis (Festus). The man was truly very, very interesting and talked with us for over an hour. Apparently he knew how interested we were in the history of Dodge and that we were big fans of Gunsmoke.

Bottom Line was: Dodge wasn't as nearly "cowboy/western" as we thought it would be and even the Charlie (the 93 year old man) told us how much Dodge has changed in the years. He said to us, "it's really too bad to see this happen".

It sounds like you had a wonderful time this week, @Cody Fousnaugh , and I am so glad that you and your wife were able to go and see the rodeo and the museums. I love seeing museums with old history like that, and it must have been really great to be able to do that while you were there.

Obviously we aren't there for it, but today, some Texas Longhorns are being brought down the main street of Dodge City (Wyatt Earp Blvd). Not that interested in Longhorns, but they can be a "sight to see".

And, I forgot to say, in my other post, that we seen a lot of livestock haulers, stock and horse trailers.

It just seems to me that there are those, older and younger, that don't care anything about the western lifestyle. Just as long as the town/city has at least one tattoo parlor and Walmart, many folks are fine with just that.

We are highly looking forward to this coming December to go back to the NFR, which is now called the WNFR due to Wrangler being such a major sponsor of it, in Las Vegas. The Southpointe Events and Equestrian Center will also be hosting a large Junior/High School rodeo finals as well. When the WNFR is in Vegas, everything/everywhere is "pro-rodeo", "cowboy", "western" and a whole lot of beautiful Christmas decor. We haven't been to Vegas for this rodeo since 2005 and haven't been to Vegas since then either.

It' really cool seeing people board Frontier Airlines, at DIA, that are going to the Vegas WNFR, wearing their Wrangler jeans, boots and black felt hats (winter hat). All of us know exactly where the others are going!

Have to add this to my Dodge City rodeo..........last night, while watching the 4th Round of their rodeo, on The Cowboy Channel, it was pouring down rain! There was a thunderstorm warning out, but, apparently, it was only heavy rain coming down at the rodeo site. If there had been lightning, the rodeo would have stopped, for awhile anyway. PRCA won't let any members do their events if lightning is going on.

I've only attended one rodeo, with my "heeler", where we found the front gate closed/locked due to rain and the condition of the arena in San Juan Capistrano, CA. (Swallows Day/Weekend Rodeo). A sign on the gate read: No Rodeo Today. See You Tomorrow. So, him and I went back home, but came back for the next days performance. We didn't want to lose our Entry Fee money.

Weather is really no concern when the rodeo is held inside a fully-covered arena. But, if it's raining too hard outside, there will be some Timed-Event cowboys/cowgirls that will call PRCA and take a "turn-out" aka "no show" for the rodeo.
