    I don't like loading music, podcasts, books, etc on my phone, so I've hung onto my old 5th gen iPod for that use. And I don't want to take my phone to bed with me, but I do listen to Audible or read kindle books to help fall asleep. The iPod has been very useful for this.

    But a year ago or so it stopped holding a charge so I've had to keep it plugged into the power source all the time. There have been mornings I've awakened with the cord wrapped around my neck due to being a restless sleeper. I can see my headstone -- strangled by her mobile device. LOL

    Now I'm getting a message that I have to upgrade the iOS to 14 or higher to accommodate an Audible app upgrade, but this old iPod doesn't seem able to upgrade to 14.

    So, I'm debating buying a new iPod. I hear an 8th gen may be coming out in the fall this year.

    Anyone else still using an iPod? Thoughts about just giving it up entirely or getting a new one?

    I use one every now and then when I am walking. I didn't know they still made them, though. Mine is pretty old.

    I've never had one, but I'm assuming it is an Apple player for media files. I've had several non-Apple players, I use them when I go on walks. Some were not so great or handy to use, for various reasons.

    But I got this one a couple of years ago from Amz and it is the best one I've had so far. Cost $31:

    MP3 Player, 16GB MP3 Player with Bluetooth 4.0, Portable HiFi Lossless Sound MP3 Music Player with FM Radio Voice Recorder E-Book 2.4'' Screen, Support up to 128GB

    @D'Ellyn Dottir

    What's an iPod? Some kind of phone?

    I see my prior comment was unsubmitted, still in Draft mode...

    I bet Ebay had a ton of almost-current-version iPods, for all the upgrading most Apple users seem to do.

    I have one of those really old tiny square iPods, but I have not used it in forever. I often listen to those guided meditation apps at night. It helps me to go to sleep really fast (not that it is ever a problem, anyway), and hopefully helps to program my subconscious for better things and for me to take better care of my health.
    I use either my iPad Mini, or my iPhone for that, and I use the Bluetooth headphones or earbuds, which would stop you from being strangled by your cord, D’Ellyn .

    I thought the last version was the 5th gen. It was a surprise to find a new one may be coming out soon.

    Thanks Bruce. I'll look into that.

    A media player. With the right app and a wifi connection you can make phone calls with it. Or used to be able to. I did it a couple times many years ago.

    @Mary Stetler , I'm not sure I ever had a Walkman.

    :DLOL @John Brunner . Funny, I always forget about ebay until after I've bought something elsewhere. Thanks for the reminder.

    I'm sure that positive neuro- programming happens the way you describe @Yvonne Smith . I've resisted earbuds, thinking I'd be apt to lose them easily, especially as I toss and turn all night. Do they fall out all the time?

    Thanks for the responses everyone.

    It's like this, only smaller, and with earjacks.

    I worried about losing the earbuds during the night, too, D’Ellyn; so for a long time I used the regular over-the-ear headphones. I usually wake up after the app stops playing, and then I put the headphones/earbuds on the night stand by the bed.
    I think that they would get uncomfortable if they stayed in all night, and they would probably run down much faster as well.

    I really appreciate hearing about your experience, Yvonne. Didn't even occur to me that the earbuds need to be recharged. I can't do headphones -- I don't think -- because I can't sleep on my back. Can't imagine those bulky things being comfortable on my side. I may just skip the wired up speakers entirely and just prop the iPod or iPhone against the pillow, and see if the neighbors complain about hearing incessantly repeated chapters of Harry Potter or Outlander through the walls. LOL
