I have one of these if I need to rearrange things rather than "pluck" an item off the shelf: I got tired of dragging it out, so that's when I bought a Grabber. Actually, a Grabber is better for putting stuff UP on shelves than it is dragging down some of the larger stuff. There are times you just need a stick to shove stuff to the back.
Got one for Christmas last year, didn't think I'd need one but have been using it quite a bit, very handy tool to have.
I was grabbed once when I was bending over at the seniors center picking up a friend's cell phone in a crowd. I purchased a grabber but I have never carried it for such occasions. Instead, I quit wearing athletic leggings to the seniors center. Now with my skinny butt and baggy assed jeans should an old billy goat attempt such a grab, he will get a handful of fabric. It was an easier fix than carrying a grabber or practicing squats.
I have two. One I got at a yard sale and one was my mother's. I don't really need one for most things, not yet anyway. I use one outside for picking up stuff that blows into the yard because I don't know what it is or where it's been.
