If you could travel back in time and meet one historical figure who would you choose and why?

I’m interested in English history so I would choose the English king Richard III who is said to have murdered the Princes in the Tower to usurp the throne. The princes were his older brother king Edward IV’s sons and stood between him and the throne. It’s a medieval ”who killed JFK” and I’d like to find out if it really was him who was responsible.

We still don't know for sure who killed JFK.
I pretty much know about my ancesters aka Vikings and Gaelic from Europe and the founding of America, so I like to study more on the builders of the pyrimids but don' have a specific name.
So many questions about them. I have forgotten much though. I also like the sturdies on the Aztec Tribes.I love all kinds of history.

Medieval times were brutal, would not want to associate with any of them.

I would like to have accompanied Lewis and Clark on their expedition in 1803.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition from August 31, 1803, to September 25, 1806, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the United States expedition to cross the newly acquired western portion of the country after the Louisiana Purchase.

I don’t think I’d want to go back. Can’t think of any one who’d interest me. I’ll stay here and you all could tell me your stories when you return.

Same here. I'd prefer that they time-traveled here where there's air conditioning and other creature comforts. That said, I can't think of anyone I'd care to talk to other than my parents or grandparents and they aren't historical figures.

I've always said I'd like to return to simpler times, if I could take modern health care and toilet paper with me.

My initial reaction to the OP's question would be to return to the authors of the Constitution and try to plug some holes (term limits, max #judges on SCOTUS), but eventually all of the rules would be broken, anyway. Maybe I wouldn't go that far back, and would like to converse with Carl Jung. I was 7 when he died in 1961.

I think language would be a great obstacle to visiting people in the past.

@Don Alaska The post assumes that you could of course converse without language problems.

The problem would be what to talk about. o_O I'd pick my grandfather, who died 5 months before I was born. Was he hard to get along with? It would not be difficult to think of something to talk about, but he wasn't famous.

I think I'd pick Robert Frost. He seemed like an interesting person. I think he would probably carry the conversation, if we could take a walk on his property.

You raise some interesting possibilities, Nancy. There are artists and authors who would be interesting to observe, but I'm not sure I'd want to make direct contact with (like Poe.)
