    I am with Frank. 4 years ago+or- our computer quit. We called our server and they said our computer was so old it would not mesh with their upgraded system. I liked the old system. It worked with no problems forever for what I wanted. Windows XP I did not need much only email and a bit of research. I did not bother with youtube after they upgraded past me.
    Then got a refurbished windows 7. I did not want a 10 because of all the problems I heard of people having. When I did not do the updates recommended for improving my experience, they started 'threatening' about the dangers of not updating. Dig heels in.
    I can get security suites etc I am a conspriracist and a curmudgeon.
    If it were not for my hubby, I would pitch the internet, use only my tv antenna, stop dwelling on the bad news, try to make things better as I am able and not worry about what sex I am.:rolleyes:

    @Mary Stetler

    How fully I can relate to you! At times, the constant barrage of commercial advertising on-line pisses me off so much I come near to crashing the whole damn thing against the wall. Could I continue on without it? Of course! Spent my first 60 years without a computer in my life, why not continue now?

    I watched Elon Musk yesterday in a presentation during which he described his FEAR of Artificial Intelligence, and what it may do someday to humanity!

    OK, now devil's advocate:
    As one who TRUDGED through shag carpeting every time I had to change the channel as a child, I do appreciate SOME technology. But nothing 'smart'.

    Wife and I have been using a computer for years, and I do mean "years". I started using one in 1988, and, since I had 3 years of typing classes in high school, I got use to the keyboard quite fast. My wife started using a computer in 1984, so she knows how they function also. We have added Memory and even installed a CD/DVD Player in one. When we got our desktop, I installed the programs that weren't already in and done the same with the laptop when we got it. I have re-installed Windows, when there we had a problem.

    But, for certain things, had to take the Tower (computer) into a store to have it repaired. They had the testing tools that I don't have.

    Each and every Monday, I run Norton Anti-Virus tools, check on Windows updates, do a Defrag (getting everything in order on the hard drive) and run Disk Cleanup to get rid of all stuff we don't need. IOW, I will do a thorough cleanup/organization of both of our computers.

    I noticed an icon has appeared in my laptop task bar that says. "Windows 11 Update is Ready for Your Computer." :eek: I'm not at all sure I want to click on that.

    Has anyone else made the update yet? This might force me back to the MacBook forever. o_O

    It's been a while for me, but Windows updates were always scary. With my Mac, if I leave the computer on, it just updates and I don't know that I'm on a new version unless I read the little pop-up, or until I see something that looks different.

    @Beth Gallagher

    I have 11, laptop bought 10 years or so ago. Every time I turn it on, an icon appears pronouncing Windows 11 updates are available. I have NEVER clicked on it.

    Frank--Win11 was only introduced a month or so ago. I currently have 10 but I'm not sure if I want to update.

    I'm sorry! Evidently I am losing my mind as well as a number of other things! I should have addressed Windows 7, not 11.

    No apology needed, Frank! We all suffer from "old-timers" occasionally. :D

    @Beth Gallagher, you don't have to take Windows 11. I've already read that Windows 10 will still be around for a few more years. We can't put Windows 11 on our desktop, but our laptop says we can. But, not putting on laptop either. At least not until there are no more updates for Windows 10.

    I know that I don't have to update; I'm just wondering if anyone has done so yet.

    I got a similar notice and ignored it repeatedly. They said I didn't have enough storage to install it. Then said they would help me make vacant storage. I didn't want to remove what they said was unnecessary. Repeated suggestions and warnings... finally I needed a newer operating system to make them happy. Which I fought in the first place.
    I bought a cloud. I did not sign in. I am here as a guest. I am told all the perks to signing in every time I get on. I don't want the perks. The saga continues.
    I DID get a gmail addy which they throw in my face often saying I can sign into sites because of it.
    I can use sits just fine, the ones I want.
