    @John Brunner

This one slithered out of the foliage by our front gate just as we entered after our evening walk. Right around our feet, terrified my wife, I quickly pulled my 9mm from my belt and shot it just behind it's head. Good size, most seen were smaller.

Nice shot. You must have carried a Sig to make a shot like that ;)

I let mine live. It was at the far end of my cleared field, nowhere near my house. I could tell it was crossing the cleared area to get to the other side. I don't have kids or pets, so it lived another day to kill mice and to feed my black snakes. I learned pretty quickly that I do not tell the locals that I let a copperhead live, so I stopped telling the story. I figured I had done a good thing.

I'm on a site called Next Door, which is a neighborhood-based forum (out here the "neighborhood" encompasses a 30+ mile diameter.) There have been a few pics of those critters right up at people's porches with the title "Please help me identify this snake."

I wonder if Ms Hart is still fiddling around with that harmonica?

What I want to know is, are you playing it yet, to your satisfaction?

Guess you want a serious answer. The answer is yes and no.

I can leave it for a while, pick it up and be where I left off. So some basics "skills" (if you can call them that  ) are set. I liked it well enough to buy another in the key of G a couple months ago. Wanted one with a lower pitch. The new one is a Hohner Special 20. I wanted to try a Hohner because it doesn't have the vents in the sides. I'm not able to cover the vents on both sides of the Lee Oskar, if I want to do that. The sound is a little mellower I believe, but that may just be because it's a lower key. Not sure the vents make the difference.

I prefer to play single notes, not chords. I was the same way with the piano. What bothers me, is you are limited to only the 7 notes in the scale, unless you learn to bend. I can do some of the bends on the Lee Oskar, but not at all on the Hohner so far. I'm afraid I'll never be able to do that consistently. But that's the next thing to try.

I listen to all these guys play on YouTube videos and the tones sound so much richer. I'm debating whether to buy a microphone and see if that's it. I have a guitar amplifier. I suppose it will work on that, but not sure. Of course that defeats the purpose that you can take it with you anywhere you go.

So that's where it stands. Got any advice?

By the way, I woke up one morning with the side of my face smashed into the pillow and I could whistle. Until I got up. Go figure. :)

I've done the same thing on whistling. Don 't know why or how but can't do so later. I play single notes and chords. I choose when to play what depending on what I'm playing. I don't have any suggestions. I was always experimenting, trying to play what sounded good to me. Fiured if it sounded good to me it would sound good to whom ever else heard me playing. Might be a bad perception on my part. I wish I could help but don't think I can, don't know how. Sorry.

The draw notes on the G is D and the draw notes on the A is E. I like the lower notes too.
Well I just wondered how it was going.

My Daddy used to play the harmonica. I still have his last one. I was looking for something recently and came across it. I blew on it a few times. It brought back some fond memories.

Mr. Boggs, I noticed both Oklahoma teams won their games Saturday. Hope an Oklahoma team ends up playing Georgia. Is that even possible? The divisions and conferences are confusing (to me).

It may be possible in the future when both teams began play with SEC. The SEC will have twvo divisions
(I suppose they have two divisions now), an East and West division. I expect Texas will be placed in the
East division and Oklahoma in the West or vice versa. Scheduling would eventually match Georgia with
one of our teams. I would hope OU, as now and for the past few years the better team. When Texas joins
the SEC, I will cut them lose, and would Oklahoma if they were not in my hometown and mess up [the
    traffic here.

You are probably too young to remember Paul (Bear) Brayant, a former coach at Alabama of which I was a
hugh fan. He also coached at Texas A&M which made me a greter fan. He starter rewatching the SEC.
The Big 12 conferencewas originally the Southwest Conference and may have started out as the the Texas
Conference. The Southwest was where I became a football fan. North of the red River was the Big 8
Conferemnce. They all have grown from there. So goodbye Texas; Good luck Oklahoma.

Welcome to Houston, Cincinnati, BYU, and Central Florida, which will began play about the time Texas and
Oklahoma move out. I continue to be a Big 12 confrence fan.

I remember Bear Bryant, Woody Hayes, Vince Lombardi, and Barry Switzer (because he was cute). That's all.

So your sentimental favorite is Oklahoma State, rather than OU?

No. Favoriteis Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech cause I lived in Lubbock forty-seven years, My son got two degree
from Texas Tech. His last degree was from Texas @ Austin. A grandson graduated there. So, I'm a Tech fan.

OU has been my team. But when they leave they will no longer be my favorite. They're only my team cause they are here in my town.
I like Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, a little bit, Texas Tech, TCU. I'm sure I will like , Houston
Cincinnati, and BYU. Among them all, I will find another favorite, even if they all are second tier teams.
