If you want to try a natural pain reliever, here is what I use, @Marie Mallery . You didn’t say what kind of pain, but most pain comes from inflammation somewhere, and fresh raw pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory, and also has an actual pain reducer as well.

If you do this, be sure to get a nice ripe one, a green one will burn your mouth. I just eat some as a matter of course almost every day, but if for some reason I pull a muscle or have arthritis pain, then I do what I call a pineapple fast, and all I have is the raw pineapple until I feel better, usually within a day’s time.

If I do need a pain pill (maybe 2-3 times in a year), I use an Alleve because my cardiologist said that was safe for me to take with the heart problems.
Another thing you might try is a heating pad over your shoulders, the heat always helps me a lot, too.

Mine is something similar to this one.

Yes, Motrin is good, if it does indeed help with your pain. There are those that say Motrin aka ibuprofen doesn't do a thing for my pain. My wife will take a 200mg Motrin to help her sleep, but sometimes it doesn't help. For my shoulder pain, both shoulders, which is basically an "achy/nagging" pain, I will use a VA prescription of 800mg ibuprofen and some CBD Deep Rub Salve. I also have VA prescription of 50mg Tramadol to take every-other day. 50mg is the lowest mg there is of Tramadol. I now also have some CBD Gummies, where I will take either a whole one or half, but not on days I use Tramadol.

I've been having this osteoarthritis pain, diagnosed by both x-ray and MRI, in both shoulders ever since I had rotator cuff surgery in each (2007 first surgery and 2015 other shoulder).

Later, after this Pandemic thing cools down more, I may end up getting a Cortisone shot in each shoulder to see how that will handle the pain.

I looked to see what pain medication are unsafe for people with heart issues, @Marie Mallery , and it looks like most of the NSAIDs are not to be taken by heart patients.
I do take Alleve, but like I mentioned, maybe once or twice a year when I have hurt something so badly that I can’t get out of bed otherwise. As long as I can move around at all, I do not take any pain medications, because of my heart.
Here is what I found when I did a search :

    Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), which are given to relieve pain and inflammation. Even short-term use can increase blood pressure and interfere with blood-pressure-lowering drugs. Many over-the-counter cough and cold medicines contain NSAIDs. The same warning goes for COX-2 inhibitors such as celecoxib (Celebrex).

But, Yvonne, many of us have to TRY and control pain in whatever way we can.

No pain relievers are safe but, according to Better Health While Aging, the safest is acetaminophen (Tylenol), although it is by no means a safe drug. I think it causes more deaths each year than any of the others. In part, this might be due to the fact that it is so widely used but, at high doses, it will cause liver failure and death, mostly from intentional or unintentional overdoses. Unintentional overdoses sometimes come about due to someone taking multiple remedies, unaware that the cold or flu medicines they are taking also contain acetaminophen. Unless vast improvements in medicine have been made in the past twenty years, since I've been a paramedic, death is a common result of an overdose. When I was a paramedic, we had a 16-year-old patient who had swallowed a bottle of Tylenol. Although he was still awake, with stable vital signs, when we arrived at the hospital, the ER physician predicted that he would die of liver failure within a few days, and he did. There have also been reported cases of liver failure in patients who took the recommended dose of Tylenol. It is also important to eat while taking Tylenol because the dangers are increased by fasting.

I am not a doctor, and it's been just over twenty years since I've been a paramedic, so please don't take this as medical advice. I don't think any of them are completely safe. Although most people can take a recommended dose for occasional pain and come through it just fine, frequent use would increase the danger, I think.

With the added complication of heart problems, I wouldn't take anything OTC without checking with a doctor who knows my condition and cares about my health. Pharmacists are also an underused resource.

First thing I would do is ask your doctor.

However, what I have learned since April, having suffered with severe arthritic pain:

I am taking Meloxicam (prescription) for pain, which is in the same class of drugs as ibuprofen (Motrin) which are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). They are all blood-thinners, as is your low-dose aspirin. I was told that I could take acetaminophen (Tylenol) along with Meloxicam because it was NOT a blood thinner and works completely different from them.

Acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory, it is only a pain med. Along with Meloxicam I was taking the maximum dose of acet. every day for several months. I no longer need it though.

Your doc may or may not be cautious of you taking ibuprofen (Motrin) and a low-dose aspirin, but if (s)he is, they will probably suggest acet (Tylenol).

FWIW, unless one has the money burning a hole in their pocket, there is no point in buying the name-brand of these drugs. The off-brands generics have the same drug in them at the stated amount.

She specifically asked about something that is safe with her heart problems. You can’t just play around with medications when it can affect your heart and possibly kill you.
It is important to only take medications that your cardiologist says are safe if you have any kind of heart condition. I think that she should ask her doctor which medications are safe for her; but what I shared is what my heart doctor told me was safe for me to take.

Thank you for the reply this pain is very bad and I'm pretty sure it is pinched nerve in neck form what I saw so far from YT.
I don't have a heart doc since he put in stents. He lied to me and said he was just going to look around then I woke up with "2" ONE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE THOUSAND dollars worth of stents.II have good insurence in thsi case too good.
I did have an ekg 1 !/2 yr ago but that doc was having a panic attack from losing 5 patiants so I had to calm him down. Guess ekg was ok,nothing said .

I went to NP to get duritic for my BP but he is too busy.
    No heart dr.s taking patiants.

I did end up taking a Goody with tylenol and aspirin. It seems to have helped but still hurting bad.
I don't have a dr yet. But figured yall woupd know what I can taake or what you take with heart and BP problems.

If it is a pinched nerve, I would try some kind of heat on my back and neck. I have a hot pad that I can lie on that will reach most of my back or my upper back and neck.
I also like the neck/shoulder heating pad that I showed you the picture of . Amazon has those, but probably a regular store like walmart or walgreens would have something similar.
Even a hot shower can help.

Some people do well with an ice pack, but for me, it makes everything hurt a whole lot worse. If you have magnesium, that should help relax your muscles, and if you do not have the capsules, Epsom salt soaks will usually help.
Try not to eat or drink any inflammatory foods.

The tylenol and aspirin did help and I just took off ice . I have to get an upper plate so I hope I can handle more teeth being pulled Thursday,I had 3 pulled 2 weeks ago and hope I can handle at least 3 more this visit. But no way can I sit with this kind of pain.I had a bridge an 4 caps so decided since we don't know how long a dental appt will be available to just pull all the top ones and keep the bottoms except for the wisdom teeth.
I hope to do the Bob and Brad theropy for my neck.
getting old is not for sissie's.
Most doc's are good people but sometimes we get a not so good one.It mkaes you 'careful' in listening to them.So far the UF clinic medical students caused me to lose part of my vision in Sept. 2019. Then the heart dr didn't ask if he could put the stents in.
I know things happen at my age and its downhill till its over but I don't need more problems.
I will try and see if I can do my paart to stop this new pain thing.

Here is who I'm going to try.

Thank you for reminding me aboutepsom salts,I did sit in tub for awhile a couple days ago till Amazon sent us both a heating pad. It did help. Next time I will use Epsom Salt.
The tylenol aspirin is helping me but I was afraid to take it without asking somebody. Hubby has back full of metal so he deals with pain alot. But this one was so severe I couldn't go online to search. I mean BAD!
