Yeah, I loved to camp, I mean tent-camp, and have my telescopes, love going places where I can see billions of stars! But I went this last Summer, and almost killed myself. Didn't mention it before, but that's when I had that mini-stroke, or whatever it was. Ambulance had to come 36 miles up-river to get me. Luckily I had a phone signal for emergency use anyway as we were way too far up to get a signal there. I had gone camping twice before and got exhausted within 3 days too so you think I would have learned my lesson but nooooo, had to go again, try again for what could have been a week-long camp-out ;( Oh well, made me appreciate my home a lot more and all the conveniences :)
Sure glad to hear of your recovery from cancer! I plan, if I do get that, to try some things I've read about, but who knows what I might go for if it actually happened to me. I saw my neighbor Dorothy at the grocery store this a.m. and I just was in awe of how she is still so independent! She's 91! I told her I hoped I could keep going on my own like her because I don't want people taking care of me. She said "that's why I keep moving"and I said I'd do my best to follow her lead ;)

Years ago, I had back pain (resulting from a very bad high dive I did in middle age) that would get so bad i couldn't stand. Doc sent me to for CAT/MRI scans and then told me I had spinal arthritis. Along with it came sciatica, that made it hard to drive a car for any distance. One bad bout put me on the floor seemingly unable to get up. In the process of trying to get up, I found a certain position (knees up to chest and rocking on the back) seemed to help. That got me into trying different floor exercises that pretty much sent the pain packing. With somewhat regular exercises, I have been mostly pain free with full mobility for for almost a decade now. My only limiting factor is that I can't walk more than a mile or two without having to get flat on my back and do the exercises; however having to walk any distance is not much of a problem when you have a go (almost) anywhere motorcycle.

Wow, that's an amazing story @John West!! Just that you were able to discover it first of all! This is nothing like what you went through, but I've noticed if I have these little, but nagging back aches, which I haven't had for months, maybe a year or more, if I would go out and just do my 30 minute walk, it was totally gone! It worked with some headaches I've had to, non-migraine, just regular headaches. So much better than taking anything, as I really watch out I don't take tylenol, ibuprofen, and otc stuff often ;)

Wow, lotta stuff going on here since I last checked.

FWIW, my arthritis/tendonitis continues to improve. Both are inflammations, and from reading a lot it seems I have systemic, chronic inflammation. Between April and July I had severe, acute pain in my wrists, hands, and shoulders, and starting in June/July had aches/dull pain in my knees, legs, and feet. My normal every-other-day walks came to a halt or were severely shortened.

Looking back on it, my hands/shoulders started to stabilize in July and were noticeably better by mid-August. I've been on Meloxicam since April and still am, although just a half-dose for the last several months. I quit it twice although the pain came roaring back after two days.

My hands/shoulders are probably 90% good now, and I continue to do home exercise therapy every other day. My leg/foot aches have been gone for over a month now and my walks are back to normal. Although improvements happened before I changed my diet, I am avoiding refined carbs as much as I can -- systemic inflammation seems to be diet related. Although from the various things I've read, some of the same foods are on the "Good" and also on the "Bad" lists, ha. I'm ready to try getting off Meloxicam again.

I'm seeing my doc next Monday and will ask him about diet, or whatever else might cause the inflammation, but I'm not expecting to learn much.

@John West Glad you discovered exercise for pain relief. My entire early morning workout is designed for pain relief. My modified Tai Chi moves really do wonders along with deep breathing. I have found deep breathing alone can help with pain. I found getting in a short workout after rising in the morning has made a big difference not only with pain but my general health.

I also might mention one thing that helps me most with pain, is self-hypnosis and instead of dwelling on that pain, I disassociate from it.

I forgot about, and will add, that both of us use CBD Deep Rub Salve 500mg. This stuff isn't cheap, at $90 per 2oz jar, but it definitely helps with pain. Use it more in cold/winter weather, like now. A jar can last us for some 6 months. I use it every night on both shoulders when I go to bed.

Tried some CBD Gummies (1/2 cube in AM), but they don't help much with pain and make me groggy. So, won't buy them anymore. Also tried some CBD Oil, to be used with a spoon, but that doesn't work much either.

I am grateful for the info we can find online nowadays. I mean we have to weed it out and for me, I'm kind of my own guinea pig on things I try. But I love being able to go beyond what the doctor tells me, whether they just don't have the time, or they haven't been educated on it, I have found a lot of thing to help with my issues, so far ;)

I'm so glad to hear you are doing so much better, especially again be able to do your walks.

    Thanks Denise.

After seeing 5 doctors from March to July, all any of them did is treat my symptoms of pain/ache in my hands, wrists, shoulders, legs, knees, and feet. In August I asked my primary if he could give me some top-down idea of what was actually going on, because it all seemed crazy. He offered nothing.

So I started digging around. I learned a long time ago the difference between legitimate and kook health sites, and to verify anything with several sources. From what I learned, I have chronic, systemic inflammation. It can be a precursor to nearly every serious disease you can think of.

The only real cause seems to be diet, mostly caused by refined carbs. But I found several items that appeared on a "good" list on one site and the "avoid" list on another site.

So who knows? I see the same doc this Monday and will get some answers from him. Somebody must know a lot more about this than I do.

Do you live near Buffalo? If so, look at these docs or search your area for similar practices.

Yes, we can find all the "opinions" just like politics, health has it's sort of Red and Blue team :( If something sounds safe, and reasonable to me I will try it. Apple Cider Vinegar was my first, real, home remedy if I remember right. I always have a bottle of Braggs in my cupboard. I don't go overboard with it but once maybe 3-4 times a year, for some reason, I'll get stomach upset of some type and one tbsp in water, cures it. I had it last night, so fresh in my mind.

I'm glad you and I have found some "alternative" help as I really think the most of my MD. He might be 40-50, and could be younger, but he has MS and is crippled up in a wheelchair. But he cares about me, and you just know when they really do. He always listens to me, and lots of times I'll ask him what he thinks about this "alternative" or that (especially supplements) and he does not poo poo anything so far. Some things he'll say he hasn't heard of, etc.

I wish sometimes I lived in a larger population, but for many obvious reasons I am glad of course, that I don't. I looked at your list you gave to @Bruce Andrew and my town doesn't have any, other types of doctors that take Medicare/Medicaid insurance. There is one Chiropractor, an optometrist, some docs like that, that do take those insurances.

The main thing I see with our alternatives that probably "who knows how many" people in the world are using and getting well on, they don't have studies! Big Pharma naturally would not be in favor if it boots them out of their "Gold Mine", prescription medicine, etc. I don't disagree that prescriptions are sometimes necessary, as well as surgery, and, that some folks prefer that by far to alternatives. Everyone has their choice, well, that is until I've seen people losing their jobs because the won't take a vaccine :(

I would be surprised if there were not some Integrative medical practices in your area, @Denise Happyfeet. I didn't look, but the integrative docs are MDs or DOs who use non-conventional methods when conventional methods don't work well. I don't know about Medicare, but BC/BS covered my wife's stuff when she went there. They don't often cover the non-conventional therapies if they are not on the FDAs list, but they covered the doctor's visits and some of the drugs prescribed.

I really had what I think is, an amazing visit with my MD today!! I missed the first appt. last week as I felt sick and didn't want to go down to the clinic and spread anything, if I had anything.

My doctor is trying to help me with several issues, but kept wanting me to try Statins. I told him I am scared of them, and want to try nutrition or other alternative ways to bring my cholesterol down. Today I was so surprised at the prescription he mentioned and it turns out it is Fish Oil basically. He is so willing to give me (within reason) things that might work for me. I thank @Don Alaska I think it was that mention Integrated Medicine because to me, I am seeing my MD "is" willing to prescribe other things, rather than conventional drugs like statins! The new script is called Vastcepa, and they are out of it until tomorrow but that's ok because I want to look it up for a full description of the script.

Fish Oil is known to be excellent for inflammation which I believe causes a lot of health issues :D

Here is what I found when I looked this up, @Denise Happyfeet . Does your doctor know that you have heart issues and a pacemaker ? It is definitely not something that would be safe for me, because I have the history of a-fib and heart failure; but maybe it is okay for you.
Pretty much, I have to take care of every thing with natural means, like diet and exercise, because of limitations from my heart problems.
