Backyard Vegetable Garden

I posted this photo of my little raised garden veggie patch on the games this morning .. ( I took it this morning )
it’s tomatoes / capsicums/ eggplant / silver beet ( spinach )
It’s late spring here and summery veggies should be producing by now but we’ve had lots of cool very wild windy weather ..we are still wearing jumpers

 

Our patio sweet bell pepper plant is really producing many peppers. The cherry tomato plant has grown large but no tomatoes yet. the basil is beautiful and thriving.

 

Update photo of put raised garden bed I just about need to get the chainsaw out to prune the tomatoes and the other veggies that are getting smothered by the tomato plants
I’ve never grown that variety before so it’s a learning experience…

Looks like you are growing a jungle there. I got a seed catalogue in the mail yesterday so it's time to think spring even though it's officially winter here in a few days. I'll be trying two new for me tomato varieties. They are Better Boy and Sugar Rush.

San Marzano is both a type of tomato and a region in Italy. The San Marzano tomato is a type of plum tomato, and it's longer and thinner than the typical plum tomato.

 

Just planted my Tomatoe and leek seeds in seed trays.

Roll on spring.

 

That seems quite early. When will you plant them outside?
I want to grow broccoli and zucchini, but it won't be warm enough outside for several months.

 

Leeks end of Feb.

Toms Mid end April when no chance of Frost.

Peppers will start planting in trays Feb plant out May.

Cucumber March End April

 

I won't be starting anything prior to the end of January--leeks, onions, and celery/celeriac.

 

Start seeds 7 weeks before the last frost I read on a seed packet. Last frost here is late May.

 

It depends on the crop and the facilities you have. Onions, leeks, and celery are usually 12 weeks for me and I can sometimes start them even sooner as I have a large light shelf set up in a controlled environment. Even peppers can be start5ed earlier, as they don't get out of control, but I wouldn't advise starting tomatoes before your 7-8 week interval, as they WILL get out of control, especially the indeterminates.

 

Here is the last of my garden for this year. They will last until about New Years Day.
