I didn’t take the shingles vaccine as suggested by my doctor because shingles isn’t fatal and if I haven’t gotten it in 79 years, I probably never will. Covid however is widespread and is fatal so I got the shots even though some side effects have been reported. It’s a case of risk / reward. Small risk vs. peace of mind that I did all I could to protect myself.
Just thought of it, wife and I are most definitely members of a two cults: Retired Rodeo Cowboys and (presently) Very Serious Rodeo Fans. Very, very nice cults to be a part of.
That may be coming. As I said before, this appears to be quite similar to the goings-on in Germany in the 1930s. That is a bit disconcerting. I don't think Cody knows what the background and training is for many of the people here. It has already been admitted by the Powers That Be that the initial two vaccinations are of little good if you don't get the appropriate boosters, which my be as frequent as every two months. Never has there been a vaccination program like this, and never has there been a disease where the medical professionals are punished for treating their patients as they see fit.
I am just the opposite, @Ed Wilson. I have taken the shingles vaccine but not the Covid. I have seen what shingles can do to those who get it severely. I also got two types of pneumonia vaccine, as that can be more fatal than Covid, and many of those classified as Covid deaths have actually been pneumonia deaths, as the reimbursement for Covid is much higher that for pneumonia, especially if the pneumonia is contracted in the hospital.
Same here, except I got both types of singles shots as well as both pneumonia shots (I think there were 2.) I have to say that now there has been this full-court press to get mrna-injected, in this environment I would not get any shot. I have a tetanus booster coming up. There's no way any physician is gonna inject me with anything these days...I have no way of testing what's in that syringe.
Herr Hochul's week-old mask mandate is NOT a law, and over half of the NYS counties have said that they won't enforce it. I went to my favorite, large, liquor store today to get wine and cordials for Saturday at my sister's. I've been going to this store for forty years. So I see they had a sign on the door that everyone must be masked, regardless of vax status (our county is one of them that refused to enforce the mask decree). I did not go in, and when I got home I looked up their website and sent them a note, mentioning how long I'd been a customer and that I won't be going there again because of their ridiculous rule. I have many other options, at places that will treat me like a human being. They are smaller stores and their prices are higher, but I don't care. So what we've seen emerging in the past almost two years is a form of fascism -- the collusion of government and business for the purpose of oppressing the citizenry. Why is the liquor store discriminating against certain people? -- they are voluntarily siding with the filthy, corrupt establishment instead of welcoming me and happy to take my money. Politics and power, apparently, is more important to them. Our health care system has gradually become -- over some decades -- some sort of socialist/fascist system: the government, media complex, insurance companies, and big pharma have a working relationship to extract wealth and exert power over the people. It's pretty disgusting, and so are the sheep (including some family and friends) who think this is all innocent and "for our own good." Sorry, I can't pull any punches when it comes to this crap.

As an aside, I had a minor skirmish with someone yesterday who called me an "anti-vaxer." She was a retired school teacher (in her early 70s.) I did not shy away from the conflict, but I didn't care to really go for the juggler. She initially taught in Australia back when they were offering incentives to bring in teachers. I wanted to tell her I could see her fingerprints on what was happening over there now, but discretion got the better of me. Had I not been standing in my friend's business, things may have been different. Nasty snarky vacuous derisive people...
If not for the fact that I don't think that I have ever had chickenpox, I would probably get the shingles vaccine because my older brother and an aunt had shingles, and were miserable with it. I am cautious of vaccines, but not opposed to them. For these vaccines, however, they literally had to change the definition of a vaccine in order to qualify them, and they've covered the whole thing with a string of lies and threats. Plus, the political advantages to the vaccine pushers are all too obvious. They have been looking for this for a long time, and I don't think it's at all crazy to believe that they invented it (the virus) for just this purpose. I am not going to subject myself to a vaccine created by the same people who created the disease. Besides, these vaccines seem to offer no advantages.
Obamacare didn't take hold? The Supreme Court rubber-stamped it. I guess we can call it whatever we want, but our entire health care system is government-controlled, especially since Covid. They are threatening to withhold insurance from the unvaxxed in certain places, denying or delaying care for unvaxxed Covid patients. That is pure evil, and I'm still trying to convince myself that it is really happening here in the good old USA. Yes, the pending legislation that will be voted on in Albany on January 5 is very scary. I am going to do everything physically possible to get out of this Communist sewer-hole this coming year. I've not gotten into any confrontations with anybody (yet) over this stuff. A minority of friends and family are libs. I never bring up politics (and never did even before Covid) so they don't usually either,
I wonder what rights Mr. Biden will take away today around this vaccine. I wish you luck in getting out of New York.
Thanks Don. Yes, it's going to be tough but I have to do it within 2022. I have to get rid of an entire machine shop and a 53 year-old collection of machinist hand tools, a barn and house full of junk, and the real estate itself. I have nothing of value except my '17 Tacoma, an '07 Vette, a bunch of guns, and some odds and ends. I guess that's better than having a whole pile of valuable stuff. Then when I get through that, I have to find a place in Florida to live. The thought of all this gives me a throbbing headache. If I had a woman with me it would be much easier but that is not in the cards.
If you can still use the tools and have a need for them, you could buy a covered trailer and cart many of them to Florida with you. Perhaps you could find a woman of similar mindset to flee the autocracy with you. She could then perhaps drive one of your vehicles for you. You could then separate at your destination or bond and form a friendship. Who knows??
