Oh you guys, I scored the most darling, Tile topped, breakfast table w/stools. I'll attach a photo that looks most like it as I only have the stools up here so far. The table is being brought upstairs for me tomorrow!! It's the cutest piece of furniture I've scored and was FREE!! I also got a good, TV Stand for the living-room with room for DVD player etc. but I will be painting it too, LOL! I want to paint everything!! and here is just a photo of something similar, but I'll take a pic of mine when I get it tomorrow The tiles are kind an off white, and all you see in black here, is actually a lovely midnight blue. I tried to bring that out in the stools but the lighting wasn't good in here today
Yes, I understand it would be better, but I already have put the base-coat on the headboard. Maybe I can work in here if I really cover everything well. I just don't know how to sand, so I don't know how big a mess I might make. This is a rented apartment so I have to be extra careful. Not that I wouldn't with my own home Thanks to both of you, I'll see what I can do with me next piece. I have about 3 more to do, pieces of furniture I want to redo
Denise since you've applied primer, that will help a lot. The paint should grab well to that and maybe you needn't have sanded. Can't wait to see the table.
Oh thanks for that Ruby, I hope it turns out decent. I really didn't know much about it, and the guy at Walmart just said the flat, white coat should work. I don't want to ruin this stuff I'm getting even though it's just "cheapo depot". I want to make this place cute so I feel good being here I will keep on posting here on this thread. Wow, that stuff Terry did was lovely wasn't it!! Oh, I'll show you the big, picture window that's actually in my bedroom facing the rising Sun, and I can set the table up there, and have my coffee and fiddle with the puter in the a.m. My other pic window is in the living room and faces a courtyard that the apt.s surround. It's just not picturesque since all I mostly see is other apts. but I do get to see sunsets because it faces West and I am on the top floor, not much obstruction to see that anyway This is the window I am going to set up the table in front of, very private for being in town It's lovely when you can see a sunrise and I am usually awake and watching them
Piece by piece sweetie, you could redo your place! Or maybe a new place! It is wonderful when I can get something that moves me towards making this a home Today was a good day
Not interested at all in redoing this place, Denise. I'm tired of it. Seems I always had to move every few years. Think I've been here the longest.
Terry, in that 3rd pic down, that is the blue I am looking at for one of these stands. Against the white it is lovely, and I have nothing but white walls I do want my bedroom area to be more of the same color, so I am thinking paint the headboard a blue, similar, as similar as I can get to the table and stools I got. Then in the living room, I don't know yet. I do want some green. Oh well, one step at a time. I love how everything coordinates in your spare room, and, the kitchen is so lovely!!
By sanding I meant a gentle rubbing with fine sandpaper or a sanding block, which produces no more dust than a bad case of dandruff, but if you have put on a base-coat and it looks ok I wouldn't worry Denise. @Denise Happyfeet
Ok Terry!! I see now, so really wouldn't make a mess at all! I will do it with my next piece I'm sure Walmart has these, thank you so much! I do want a nice, smooth surface on my stuff after looking at tons of photos. At first I was thinking that raggedy look but so glad for the comments that got me rethinking that Yeehaw!!
Since I want things to match (and I should have payed closer attention to you in the first place) I could still do the sanding on the flat, white surface I have now couldn't I?? I really do want it as smooth as I can get it. Hope it's not too late.
The maintenance guy was here with my table, I just love it! I tried to get some photos here, but again the lighting this time, was too light, oh well, you get the idea
Love it! I used to have a big kitchen table like that but the tiles were white. It was a mistake because It was hard to keep clean, but I had small kids at the time.
I have all my paint You could Denise but it depends on the base-coat you used, was it a water based one? (dries very quickly and you wash brushes in water) or an oil based one that dries slowly up to 12 hours or more, and brushes need to be cleaned by a chemical, turps or white spirit in the UK.. The water based ones are very fragile and sanding could easily damage them, try a small hidden area first. Oil based ones are tougher and are best left to harden for a few days. You need a fine sandpaper grade 400 or higher and be very careful using very little pressure. I often use a wet or dry paper moistened to get a really good finish. "Wet and dry sandpaper is more effective used wet because clogging is reduced by particles washing away from the grinding surface" more here Good luck with your project you will soon be an expert
