For the past couple of months, the Toshiba "smart" TV in our bedroom randomly turns itself on in the middle of the night. Very annoying. I have googled and done all the troubleshooting recommendations but the problem persists. This happens about once a week or so. I discovered that this is not unique to Toshiba, but that most smart TV brands have the same problem. Weird.
Aliens turn it on so they can study you…… I only know that because they told me so the last time I was abducted.
How old is the Sony? The Toshiba is probably 5 or 6 years old and just started doing this a couple of months ago. Guess I'll start unplugging the dang thing at bedtime.
You can read thru these recommendations, something is turning it on by signal that should not be happening. At the very bottom of these check points they mention an abbreviation that turns off the auto on and off and you might have that feature needing to be turned off in menu. Sounds like a lot of trouble to watch stuff we watched 50 years ago. ;0) https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/stop-tv-from-turning-on-off
For all the "fixes" to this issue, no one acknowledges that--being hooked to the internet--your tv is being turned on remotely so they can spy on you. I wonder if disabling the internet connection when the tv is not in use might stop the problem. Wouldn't that be interesting??? I would deny its connection at the router and not trust the WIFI On/Off menu selection.
Actually, one of the "fixes" mentioned in the PC Mag link Thomas posted is to disconnect wifi. I've already tried most of those recommendations and the problem persists. Now I either turn the volume down really low or unplug the damn thing. I just don't like being waked up by the My Pillow idiot at 3:39 a.m.
Well there's the problem right there! You call someone an idiot and you don't expect a retort of some kind!
