It’s 3 am. "And your rooster just won’t stop. We’ve all been there. If only we had known that roosters don’t just crow at sunrise. They instead crow roughly 12-15 times per day, with much of that happening right when we’re all fast asleep!" "God only knows why they choose 3 am, but alas, they do. Me? I can sleep right through a rooster crowing at 3 am. My husband and my neighbors? Not so much. That’s why when I heard about this thing called a “rooster collar,” I studied up." I know this is in Science and Nature, but that sentence makes me laugh. And it's hard to be serious. Send him to Costa Rica. Sorry.
Here is a video of The Muted Rooster¹ from that article: ¹I wish I wanted to open a pub or a restaurant, or perhaps start a political movement. "The Muted Rooster" would make a great name.
This is a good idea I was not familiar with. We don't have a rooster at the moment, and have had issues in the past, but during the summer here, the roosters get very confused with eternal daylight, and it would be a handy thing to have.
I had not heard of this although my present rooster is quieter than some in the past. I have learned a lot about fowl husbandry over the years and might not have believed it in the city. I have built mine a chicken tractor. They make diapers for chickens. Whodda believed a chicken saddle? and more. All are real and have good uses. This rooster gag, like I said, is new to me.
The article goes on to say: "It’s called a rooster collar, and you will thank the heavens once you figure how to put one on your rooster! Unlike a dog collar, a rooster collar WILL NOT shock the rooster or punish it for crowing. It will simply reduce the amount of air the rooster can fit into its voice box."

This reminded me of a Ma and Pa Kettle movie, where they had to shoo off the chickens in order to set the table. (first 15 seconds)
