First, I should define a green weenie. It is a term some of us apply to those people who spout the green narrative with little knowledge of what they're talking about. These are the people who think carbon dioxide should be removed from the atmosphere, never mind the fact that every thing they eat directly or indirectly needs CO2 to grow. These are the people who think wind and solar energy can provide all the electrical power we need. These are people who think they're helping to save the planet by buying electric cars. These are the people who, when asked if hydrogen dioxide should be banned will say "of course". These are the people who will say the ocean is rising without thinking about how plate tectonics can make land sink.,

As for their day of reckoning, I read that the green-wannabe state of CA has asked electric car owners not to charge their cars during current and future power shortages. Such people also seem to ignore how the search for rare minerals (e.g. lithium for batteries) is ravaging earth, air and water. Most electric car owners seem loath to recognize the source of electricity or its transmission energy loss and cost.

Over the last few years we've seen a bumper crop of solar panels growing in fields but read power companies are canceling their contracts with the companies that put them there. Also, word has it that the cost of maintaining some of the windmills around here makes them a losing proposition relative to the electricity they generate. Wind farms are highly unreliable as energy sources, not to mention that they take vast quantities of land out of production and kill tens of thousands of birds per farm.

I regularly read about green energy companies going out of business, some with executives being prosecuted for fraud (e.g. Robert A. Karmann, who was the chief financial officer for a now non-existent company, was sentenced to six years in prison on Tuesday for his role in a Ponzi scheme encompassing billions of dollars).

Rumors are spreading that some countries with energy to spare that hate us are major players in the green movement. If you wonder why, you should probably stay off the internet.

I will end this rant saying there are the lessons to be learned from Germany's green energy disaster. LINK. It would seem the green weenies are slow to learn but, in all probability, learn they will and it won't be pleasant for their cognitive dissonance issues.

Yeah, a native corporation who owns an island off the coast put a wind farm out there and now has no customers, as the power generated by the wind farm is more expensive than that generated by natural gas. If Biden continues his war on energy, that may change, however.

Great post, @John West. Windmills are ruining the mountaintops in Maine, while the cost of electricity soars. I hate looking at the ugly damned things.

yes...these are the people who don't think...
those people that get sucked in and don't think ...
those people that don't look past their noses..
those are the people that have no common sense of how things work....

    BRAVO...
and also...those people will not listen to common sense

Guess who has control of the world's known lithium. Stupid question, right? As you probably know or could guess, China controls about 90% of lithium reserves and dominates the market. Now what politicians have connections with China? Stupid question, right?

We gave up a good bit when we surrendered in Afghanistan, but then again we probably couldn't mine it for environmental reasons. At least the Chinese will get the mineral out of the ground.

    They never studied physics.

"When energy is transformed from one form to another, or moved from one place to another, or from one system to another there is energy loss. This means that when energy is converted to a different form, some of the input energy is turned into a highly disordered form of energy, like heat. Functionally, turning all of the input energy into the output energy is nigh impossible, unless one is deliberately turning energy into heat (like in a heater). As well, whenever electrical energy is transported through power lines, the energy into the power lines is always more than the energy that comes out at the other end. Energy losses are what prevent processes from ever being 100% efficient."

In other words, it will take more energy to create a lesser amount of energy and currently there is not enough green energy capacity so fossil fuels will have to do the job and we're back where we started.

Meanwhile in the UK, we have folks which included 2 olympic athletes, demonstrating against fossil fuels. From a short quip I heard, they had a fuel tanker cornered and were holding up signs that said, “fossil filth”.

Now, I’m not against protesters but protesters and demonstrators need to dot their i’s and cross their t’s just to make it clear that they’re not in all actuality just hypocrites.

Ya can’t cook the food using fossil fuels which you just bought from a store that uses fossil fuel lighting and cooling and got those groceries you bought via a truck that uses fossil fuels to get the product to the grocery.
Note: To be sure, you can’t even pay for the groceries because money is made using fossil fuels and your debit card is made using fossil fuels.
Added to that, before the product is even shipped it comes from a farmer / rancher who uses fossil fuels to help grow whatever it is that they raised.
And, whilst protesting, don’t use paper signs because the makers of that paper used fossil fuels to cut down the trees, grind the pulp and roll out the paper.

If folks are sooooo against something then don’t use it….period. Move to the country, live in a yurt, dig a water well by hand and grow your own food. Throw your computer out and give up reading books unless the book is made of basic hand made papyrus.
That electric car ya just paid for says fossil fuels from the front bumper to the rear one so ya gotta give it back.

Once you’ve done all of that ++, then come out and protest wearing your best wool clothes you made from raising sheep and spinning your own wool.
Remember, supply and demand are the two pillars of capitalism. If there’s no demand, then the supply will dwindle on it’s own.

i am not against protesters either; however, I do find many, if not most, to be blithering, blathering, bleating idiots when it comes to global warming, climate change and the like.

I haven't checked recently, but when I had the figures available, 52% of the oil used in the U.S. was not used for transportation. Much of it is used for plastics, and a good deal is used for heat.

I’m fine with anyone who is on board with the side of whatever science that says that global warming is largely due to mankind. That said, those who base their beliefs and actions on the likes of an uneducated parent led child like Greta, I do have some reserved feelings.

If a person has a definitive, well educated thought about whatever, then do something about it without any hypocrisy involved. Don’t wage war whilst telling me to be peaceful. Don’t be a racist whilst saying you’re combating racism. Don’t use paper signs to tell me to quit cutting trees to make paper.
Don’t tell me to quit using fossil fuels whilst in any way using fossil fuels.

In it’s very essence, I have no problem with folks who practice what they preach and as long as it is well founded. I may not agree with them but I can deal with it in a reasonable manner.
