There's a bit of a difference here. If she decides to or not to get the abortion it doesn't have anything to do with anybody but her and the baby to be. If she refuses the mask, she might infect me and others.

Reason has an article today highly critical of the reasoning put forth in Alito's draft opinion.

The only way to prevent an abortion is not getting pregnant.............by using all available methods on the market. Now, no having sex -as you say- is equal to say "Women don't have the right to fornicate". Gee, talking about being ridiculous.
One more. a fetus is not a person.

I enjoyed watching Mitch McConnell squirm yesterday. Deflecting questions. The Leaker is the only thing that's important, he says. The Republicans in Congress have been using Overturn Roe v. Wade as a campaign slogan for decades, assuming it could never happen. Now they got what they pretended to wish for, and they have to tip toe between defending this, or admitting they never wanted it overturned in the first place.

Ok, I am sorry but if this means that if you can't have an abortion you won't have sex (with a man). Sounds like a good plan for her.
The world is nuts. I remember in high school the abject terror of some kids thinking they might be pregnant and having few choices because abortions were illegal. In college, birth control pills were handed out like candy through Planned Parenthood but some girls still could not be bothered to take responsibility. Sex happens. Deal with it. Not via gov't handouts or decisions.
With covid we were practically forced to wear masks and be injected with who-knows-what (losing control of rights of our bodies) Those gov't decisions were OK? I was fine if it was what we decided to do after due dilligence--not the gov't mandates as the evidence did not warrant blanket vaccines.
And for those thinking I had to get injected so I did not infect YOU. You got the vaccines and boosters so you would not get infected matter what others did or else what was the point?!

    Dunno.
Somehow the conversation went from what the Real problem put before the Supreme Court is to whether women should be allowed to have abortions.

The object of concern here is whether the Federal Government has the right to enter into the conversation of abortion at all.
To me, if women wanted more say in the matter then they’d want the playing field to narrow to the state level so their voices via their votes have a better chance to be heard.
As it is, there isn’t one constitutional lawyer who doesn’t know that if it stays at the Federal level then the Executive Branch has the problem of enforcing the findings and there isn’t one Congressperson who doesn’t know that if it stays at the Federal level that Congress will most likely have to approve funding via our taxes.
Note: No matter how I personally feel about abortion I really don’t want to help pay for someone else’s sexually driven mistakes. Your body, your responsibility. I wasn’t there enjoying the act so why should I pay the consequences. Heck, I do not want to pay the consequences for someone’s STD’s either but each and every taxpayer does anyway.

Along with everything else, there’s so much misinformation being thrown out there that folks are being confused into making some wrong assumptions.
For instance, just this morning I heard a wanna-be congressman say that the Supreme Court will enforce whatever their findings are. WRONG
The Supreme Court doesn’t write bills nor make anything law much less enforce anything. The members of the Supreme Court only determine the Constitutionality of a bill or law. That’s it.
Enforcing a law is up to the Executive Branch and making law is up to Congress.

All within the confines of the Fed's Constitutional authority, of course.

    Oh yeah, of course.

The one aspect that is missing here is that Congress seems to believe that the Supreme Court can make law and for the most part are happy to relinquish that power. Members of Congress do not want to be held responsible for making unfavorable decisions especially during election periods.
There are 436 members in the House so rather than having something so overwhelmingly unpopular as the question of abortion dropped in their laps is a no brainer: they would rather leave it up to the Federal Government. That way the Representatives aren’t responsible for any decision and their constituents can blame or praise the Fed however they see it.

Once Congress forces the Supreme Court to make law then those in Congress can thump their chests and lie like rugs because no vote has to be taken so therefore there’s no accountability. He did it, no, she did it, no, they did it.

The target for the real conservatives has been the Chevron decision, which most people are unaware of, but the abortion question has been used as campaign fodder by both sides. Like I said before, if it happens, it just throws it back to the state level. Abortion will still be legal in about half the country.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware of this decision (or many others for that matter). Thanks for pointing it out.
