What makes me a leftist (I guess) is that I think that people who are left behind by the capitalist system should be subsidized if they have children. The adult(s) might be too lazy to work but his/her kids are innocent of that flaw.
I love my country and our constitution and would die to defend them. I'm disgusted by the flood of third world illegals flooding the country, not because those people aren't deserving but because the psychopaths behind this strategy are trying to destroy the U.S. as a sovereign country.
I used to ignore politics but now I want to participate in defending our nation. Maybe it's because I'm getting old and senile but I find myself caring about what is happening.

You don't sound like a progressive leftist, Dwight.

Do we really have to be anything in particular?

What happened to the hair? I'm letting mine grow because the ladies liked yours ... and because I can comb it over my bald spot ... and because it will hide some of my homely face.

I didn't really plan on having it cut short when I entered the barbershop. I just decided it on the spur of the moment.

The result is that I no longer think I can smoke pot with you.

Have you always had the night shift, Ken?

That in a nushell is why you're not a progressuve leftist. You don't mind explaining why you do things.

Dwight in no way appears to me to be a progressive leftist, based on the few posts I have seen of his, and I admit I don't come here that often, but Dwight seems to lean right, and I'm not talking right v. wrong. Smoking pot does not a progressive leftist make. Or the length of hair. I like that Ken said "Do we really have to be anything in particular?" Labels are killing us, IMO.

I think that we all care about the children, @Dwight Ward , and want to see them have a home and food, even if the parents are not able to work. We have had the welfare system since at least the early 1950’s which was designed to make sure of that, it just does not always work right.
Many of the non-productive parents are also irresponsible, and do not use the money and other benefits that they receive to actually take care of the children.
Drug addicts spend the SSI money on drugs, sell their food stamps and spend the money on drugs, and when they get money to have the electricity turned back on (from non-payment), they can sell the check for the utility company, too.
We have seen all of this happening right in our neighborhood. CPS will come by when something is reported, but does not seem to be doing anything to help.

So, just giving money and benefits to the parents does not mean that the children are actually being helped. Sometimes, it probably even makes things worse, because it enables the drug-addict parents to buy even more drugs and take less care of their children.

If Oz exists, no one has yet to find the yellow brick road to get there. In other words, no human being on this earth has all the answers.
A free society isn’t really free in that there is nothing that comes without cost. Those who pay the price so others may enjoy the facade of freedom are themselves enslaved in some way or manner.

Left, Right, Middle, Dem, Rep, Independent, Liberal do wa diddy diddy dum diddy do are designations meant to define the broken rungs on a ladder we wish to be placed upon whilst climbing for a social utopia that doesn’t exist.
I guess the largest distinction between each rung is how much we can tell someone else how to run their own enslaved life.

Hence, some of my favorite words to a song:
You can’t even run your own life, I’ll be d____ed if you’ll run mine.

Free or enslaved. The only two labels that really mean anything and determine the whole of a person’s life.

Perhaps, if one were to choose an outside label, Idealist comes to mind. Perfection is so out of reach for humans but to establish an ideal life within a broken society is the very best we can do and be.

There is a big difference between a Progressive Leftist and a Liberal. I'll leave it at that.

I don't even recognize him as a liberal, Don!

Dwight I hope I'm misunderstanding your post.
If your saying a man should be forced to pay taxes to support another mans child then I disagree.

Explain to me how we survived without welfare the first couple hundred years and doing so created the greatest nation on earth, once welfare came along it has been totally downhill every since.
We had charities that helped feed the poor and sick. And families that socialist got rid of every chance they got.
