My explanation may be wrong but I'll try. A shelter is usually dog pound, humane society. We got these from our vet bulletin board.
Update on the dogs slow but improved attitudes. And some pictures we took today of them, they both gained twice their weight since we got them. Foxy is spastic and they both like to lick way too much. They are not as afraid as before even barking now sometimes. Before they ran if we picked up an object or made any sound. The licking will probably decrease as they continue to calm down and grow less fearful. Licking with dogs is like chewing fingernails with people.
Thanks Dwight, I'll be looking forward to that day. But as I said they are getting better thank goodness. Sometimes I ask myself what in the heck were you thinking but then they give us joy when they aren't driving us nuts,
A day at the beach, think they look tired and hot,should have seen us.The dog in front is our old dog Molly.Taken after walk, ' or drag in the case of the two wild ones,lol' on the beach. They didn't mind the pier,Foxy rather liked it.Molly our old 15 y.o. dog likes the beach but not the company.
Yesterday was another trip to vet. Male has inflammation in his private part. Vet found no infection at all just inflammation. So now Leo is on steroids for 12 days. Its a challenge but they are slowly learning to sit [ with a littler help] Like throwing them down on their side!. Mr. and mrs. nice guy is going out the window.I have related to the more primitive kind of training at times. It saves me possible stitches in my legs and bites. Last leg claw was really bad deep cut wounds. Its working better than anything so far.Now when I say 'down' they lay down [most of the time] and neither of us gets injured my legs or their feelings. Male put some big time bite marks on his sister so we put up another fence to separate them now and then. More work and expense but then we think we are half way there. Now Molly looks around to see if its safe to go into yard. Foxy wants to attack her and Leo wants to sniff her to death when he is not licking himself hope the steroids fixing that.
Did your vet check for ticks on the dog with the inflammation, @Marie Mallery ? Those teeny-tiny ones are had to even see. Poodle had one crawling on him (hadn’t got down to his skin yet) and he is white , so we could see it easy. We think that Rusty (Bobby’s dog) might have had one, too, because he was itching and licking, but we looked and couldn’t find it, and he was thrashing around so it was impossible to actually tell for sure. I put some iodine on him, and Bobby got some flea and tick repellant and put that on Rusty to kill any ticks if he did have one. Poodle is mostly inside, and I bathe him with flea shampoo in the summer, which keeps him pretty safe from fleas and ticks.
Yvonne he gave them a flea and tick pill last month but we had just bathed them yesterday morning for the ride in the van so they may have got oof in the shower. Compared to the last 2 baths they were really good this time bathing though.Yvonne It could be that or what little food or nutrition they were getting. Vet was so happy to see the improvement in the dog in every way. He was calmer and trusted hubby not nearly as nervous as before. Vet said like a new dog.I sat outside in van with Molly and Foxy ,it was hot! Today is the second month anniversary they came here Mar.,19th..
He is less spastic than foxy but likes to chase her and play fight. She is spayed so no danger in breeding. He isn't sitting long though,no such luck.
Marie, wife and I have been on that pier before! Vilano Beach. The bridge across the intracoastal from St. Augustine to Vilano Beach. There is a boat launch on one side of the street and a marina on the other side just before getting on the bridge. This was when we lived in Jacksonville and had thought about launching our boat at the ramp. However, never did. Way to much navigation stuff on the intracoastal for us. Plus, the tide has to be just right or a boater can wind up sitting on a sandbar. Much, much easier boating in a lake.
I think of a Rescue as a dog that has been taken away from its owner due to neglect, in one form or another (physical abuse, horrid living conditions, etc.) They have been "rescued" from those circumstance. It's the stuff you see on the commercials asking for your money. A Shelter is where dogs without owners may end up (I generally think of strays in the County Pound.) Rescue Dogs might sometimes end up here as well when they're ready for adoption...I'm not sure...but "Rescue" denotes that it's been confiscated and not just picked up wandering the streets.
Cody thats correct ,right on the intercoastal pretty little town too, but beach is disappearing alot since our visit in 2019 [ my avatar]. I really miss my little Becky in that photo. She passed a couple months after our trip.
Leo is really coming along, he has been in front yard and porch last 24 hours [ Foxy in back yard] and has been affectionate something he has not been. He wags his tail and puts head in hubby lap. Actually, comes up and ask for affection.. Today is Foxys turn to stay in front and Leo is mad he is in back yard. Foxy is less spastic and not so much licking. She still likes to dominate and intimidate Molly but even that is improving. She was running by the old dog and snapping at her so Molly won't leave our side. I take Molly for a walk to the front gate and back every morning [ good for me too lowers my sugar a little] and she likes the fact they can't leave the yard.
