I remember sitting for over an hour, to get into a drive-in theater to see Jaws.

And, the drive-in theaters that I went to in So. California, turned into Swap Meets during the day on weekends.

We would pile people in the trunk since they charged per car. One time, we had two kids in the trunk and we left them there until sometime after the movie started.

I don't recall the movies we would see when I was a kid. I don't even know how we were able to see anything...there were 6 kids and my parents.

As an adult, the drive-in near me tore out the cheap audio things they had mounted on posts (that you hung on your windows) and they transmitted the sound over FM. You could tune in on your car's stereo, or you could take a cooler full of beers, a chaise lounge and a boom box, and just lay out in the parking lot and watch.

The last thing I saw there was a double feature: A Clockwork Orange, and Easy Money (Rodney Dangerfield.)

There's still a drive in the next county over (20 min drive), open Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
The weekend's double feature is Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness, and Death on the Nile.

Tickets cost $22/vehicle, Limit 7 bodies. Bought in advance online, bring the QR Code (ever since COVID.)
They have two screens: one for sitting in your vehicle, and a grassy area for lawn seats w/in-ground speakers.
Free jump-starts should you need it and a concession stand with lots of choices.

    Cigarettes
    Vaping
X Wacky weed (Virginia just decriminalized MJ, I wonder if this rule will change.)
X Outside food or drinks, even if Uncle Cletis did just brew up a fresh batch of squeezins.

Their website raises an interesting modern issue. It tells people how to turn on their vehicles to power up the [required] radio without the headlights automatically coming on. That might not be possible in my car.

John there could be a problem with the lights, but we went a couple years or so ago and didn't notice any problems.

You cannot disable my daytime running lights. If the car's on, so are the lights. It's no big deal...I'm not gonna go to the drive in by myself.

Maybe but I bet you wouldn't be the only one there with automatic lights.
Maybe that would be a way to ask someone out, want to go to the drive in,she may think your kidding at first..:p.

Maybe she's got a sister so there would be one to block each headlight so I won't get into trouble. ;)

Is you avatar and Austin Sprite?

One of my HS friends had one. Must have been 64 or so.

Yeh, it's a Bugeye. Made that body style until 1960 or so. Then the ones that looked like MG Midgets came along, with slight variations.
