I found this information about soda bicarbonate today, and thought this thread would be a good place to share the information for anyone who might be using soda for their stomach.
From the manufacturer of Arm & Hammer (Church-Dwight Company): Re: Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Arm & Hammer™ Sodium Bicarbonate Natural Status Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Sodium Bicarbonate is made from Soda Ash (sodium carbonate), Water, and Carbon Dioxide, which all occur naturally, and it requires no more than minimal processing. These materials are subject only to physical treatments to drive off impurities before they are brought together in our facilities. The process of making sodium bicarbonate relies on simple manufacturing techniques such as dissolution and control of temperature to form the product. Once formed, centrifuging and drying are used to separate the process water from the product. Reclaimed solution is returned to the process thereby avoiding waste. Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Sodium Bicarbonate does not contain any artificial flavor or flavoring, coloring ingredient, or chemical preservative (as defined in 21 CFR 101.22), or any other artificial or synthetic ingredients. https://www.ahperformance.com/wp-co...ium-Bicarbonate-Natural-Status-02-01-2022.pdf
I have never heard of baking soda toxicity. That 'difference" post is silly. It doesn't substantiate toxicity to consumers.
Very strong meds can cause most of these stomach issues. Habits such as not eating before taking certain meds, I am the worst for that since I never eat breakfast unless I am on the road traveling. It took me 14 years to get a bad stomach hernia repair corrected. The VA did the first and never even tried to do the repair in this state, they were so poor in my care they failed to even contact the surgery department to schedule surgery in Shreveport. Then when I found out they had lost the referral from their own surgery department it finally got done or to the point of having a lower scope done just in case more than one thing was needed. I can understand that but in my case they refused to allow me to drive the 160 mile round trip to get the scope work pre op. So why did I waste all this time and malfeasance from the VA, because they are the VA. I finally got it repaired last year by a good surgeon in Baton Rouge. I still have a few pains when I lay on my left side but not always, most is due to the old rut sack I sleep on. I have noticed that when I eat certain foods there are now a couple things that cause me to have a lot of acid but not reflux, only if my head is lower than my feet only a couple times that has happened. So I guess it helps if a person is sure they are sleeping with the head elevated higher than the feet, it could be something really simple to stop it from happening and not a major problem.
The insinuation is that Arm & Hammer uses synthetic substances but the truth is, it is mined in Wyoming or someplace and is totally natural.
I would agree that NaHCO3 is the same regardless of where it is found. The question could be contamination by heavy metals, and that seems to me would be as likely, or more so, mined intact vs. created in a lab. Not everything created synthetically is necessarily worse than that mined as an ore or scraped from a lake bed. The quality of the testing for contaminants would be the key.
I had a very difficult time with that after I had surgery last summer. I'm a stomach sleeper so sleeping on my back with plastic drain tubes was miserable. But it's amazing how we learn to adapt! I think buying that adjustable bed was really helpful for me since I could adjust my head and my knees higher, so it was like sleeping in a recliner.
I slept on my back for a bit when I had disc issues, and bought one of those foam hills you straddle your legs over so your knees are bent (actually, I bought a ton of foam accessories.) Pain relief can be a strong motivator. I've thought of propping the bed posts up on bricks or something, but since I've been taking vinegar, my episodes are less severe and less frequent...and sleeping on my side on an incline would be weird.
Since my cancer operation I've had the same problem. Baking soda should be avoided ( I know it works ) because of the toxic aluminum in it. Regardless, I use it sometimes when nothing else does the trick. Off the topic, but it may be related, avoid taking stool softeners or laxatives. Look into mangos. https://www.theepochtimes.com/bette...it-helps-to-relieve-constipation_4599158.html
Try tying a rope to your feet and hauling yourself up over a chin-up bar. Sleeping upside down gives you strange dreams. You know I'm kidding. Saying stupid stuff is one of my hangups. (git it? hangups ..gi tit?)
Baking soda does not have aluminum in it, @Dwight Ward , you are thinking of baking powder. Not all baking powder has aluminum in it, but most of the well-known brands still do. Baking soda should just be nothing but the sodium bicarbonate.
Yvonne, my dear, are you saying I'm wrong about something? That's unlikely. There's been a guy using my name who says all kinds of dumb stuff on the seniors site. I'm a democrat and I deny everything.
