That's how the pythons-in-the-everglades disaster got started. Some morons released their "pets" when they got big and scary. Now they are everyone else's problem in Florida. Oh, and yes... We still live where we truly want to.
We had no problem at all, not a single one, when we had our house and it was part of a HOA. But, then again, we don't believe, nor like, a trashy looking front yard/driveway or backyard. An HOA controls that to where the community is nice looking, not trashy looking. When we had our house, we got a notice from our HOA about repainting our two garage doors (3-car garage). They paint was faded and peeling. We bought the paint/brushes/rollers and not only pained the garage doors, but had enough left over to paint our front porch. The HOA paid for all of it and sent a very nice letter thanking us for doing it. However, the HOA, while driving by, noticed how gray/dead looking, the grass was of our neighbor across the street. The neighbor got a Notice/Warning, but didn't think nothing of it. They ended up getting a Fine for neglicting the Notice/Warning . After the Fine, they watered and had absolutely beautiful green grass, just like ours. We are not "busy-bodies", but do follow the leasing policies/rules. We also notice things that are wrong in the complex. Our old complex manager in Florida, was very, very grateful that we'd let her know anything we seen that was against leasing policies/rules.
I mentioned the snake to our maintenance supervisor and she sort of brushed it off saying "if it's not eight feet long, I really don't care." So, that tells us that she doesn't care about the leasing policies/rules either. There just happen to be residents in apt. complexes that don't care about leasing policies/rules, just like they don't care about how much noise they make and disturbing neighbors when it's "quiet time". The young folks get the feelings, "I'll do what I want, when I want. Nobody is going to tell me what rules to follow. I have to follow them at work and that enough."
People who live in an HOA-controlled neighborhood have chosen to live there so, while some people do still have problems with their HOA, as demonstrated in often humorous news reports, most people in an HOA are happy to have someone police themselves and their neighbors. On the other hand, people who live in apartments are often there only because they can't afford a house and have to live somewhere. So they sign a rental agreement that they don't read and often don't feel obligated to live up to.
I would be grateful, too. Then instead of having to own the distasteful part of my job and saying "I noticed that..." I can deflect responsibility by saying "You know that guy with the cowboy hat? [we both roll our eyes] Well, he's been complaining about your..." So you are Complex Manager pro forma...or maybe it's by proxy.
Looks like we are 90 percent sure to move to Kansas come end of the year! I have spent so much time on computer looking up all the pros and cons of this move. Taxes, costs for various things, healthcare list goes on. Scary moving so far from home state at this age, but some perks along the way. A very nice, large house with 2 car garage - vs a 2 bedroom apt in over crowded city. Rent alone will be so much cheaper. Least will have family there, so wont be totally alone. It will be a big adjustment ,but so far i have not found reason not to make this move.
Well, her talking to me about "this, that and the other" wasn't that important, but one time: she asked me to keep an eye on our neighbor who lived in the building right across from our patio. The resident lived on the ground level, had a dog, but told the manager that they didn't. She asked me to keep a lookout for the dog and, sure enough, they had a dog. We had a dog leash law also, same as where we live now. Our one neighbor would let her dog outside, by way of the back patio door, and watch it poop/pee. Never on a leash and would never clean up the poop/pee. The manager didn't need my help on this! She was sitting in her car, which was parked toward the area where the neighbor would let her dog out to poop/pee off of leash, getting ready to go home and out comes the dog and owner. No leash and it did poop/pee and owner didn't clean up. Apparently a Notice was sent to the young lady, because the dog was on a leash and she cleaned up. However, she moved when her lease was up (a few weeks later). One other thing: A guy, and his girlfriend, use to live in the building across from us. They stopped paying rent when the Pandemic hit, but when the "rent paid" thing ended, he refused to pay rent. They didn't get a Lease Renewal letter from the manager. One word describes what happened to them..........GONE!!
If a resident does something, or somethings, that they are told they can't do, but continue doing, an Eviction may not happen, but they won't get a Lease Renewal letter either. Which means, they aren't evicted, but have to leave anyway. Now, if they don't leave, that is when the eviction happens and the Country Sheriff's Office (Deputies) are called to get the residents out.
yes, but we will have a very nice basement[/QUOTE] Watch the weather channel radar for when storms come through the area where you are thinking of moving to. There seem to be patterns that the storms usually follow when they come through here, so there are probably patterns for that area, too. Most of the tornadoes here seem to go around the area by the arsenal (we joke that the arsenal has a “dome” that they put up to keep the storms out), and they seem to touch down either north or south of where we are at, and almost always follow the same path through this part of Alabama. Nashville, on the other hand , seems to be right in the path of most of the storms, and has flooding issues, and sometimes tornadoes also.
. If you have water, you can always cool off but if power goes out and temp drops to -30 then you're in a lot of trouble. At our age I don't see chopping wood 'if you can even find wood' an option for old seniors. If power goes wood will be scarce. I'm not real happy here but I don't see anything much better. Hubby would never be happy living with our family.
So much to do, so little time now it seems. On laptop constantly chicking out all that i can. Told Hubby, dont expect to see any real savings for 2-3 mos. once the shock of the move wears off.The town is very small pop. 800-900 maybe. so naturally they are also 30 years behind in some things. Such as- they do not do credit checking - they like deposits. So much for my long strived exellent credit. We are excited and scred all at thesame time. Some casual friends of ours moved last year from Texas to N Carolina. Was on the phone with her early this morning. I will upload picture later. Sorry gotta go, much to do
