I was driving a school bus when I was in my early 60s I still drive my card almost every day and I'm 83
Don't let Cody know. I've been working with Lighthouse for the Blind in getting a Special Permit for the visually impaired; you know, restricted hours solely for them to go to work, food shopping and the liquor store.
Maine’s 102-year-old lobsterwoman, Virginia Oliver, proves that age is nothing but a number and has been trapping lobsters for more than nine decades. Oliver continues to work 3 days a week with her 79-year-old son and has no plan of retiring. Link https://link.today.com/click/287369...zIwMjIwODE1/57c0b68572fbf260058b6b41C2f2427dc
Good genes for a lot of people I suspect. I fell a second time on my front porch today when my left foot did not lift me over the short top step up on my porch. I had a sack of groceries in my right hand and had just tossed all the cat feed dishes laying around the front porch from my feeding the two waifs that dine here each morning. I was having my grass cut so I thought I should pick those up. The porch was covered with those plastic entree dishes I use to feed those cats. I was fine because my jeans kept me from getting scratched up. I just landed on my left side, the knees are at fault and have no rotation in them. The first time I fell it was the same problem and I was doing the same thing except not tossing cat dishes on the porch. Most of the time I just put my groceries thru the bedroom window and only because the time I get home I am beat and don't feel like toting that stuff to the front porch. I came in and it was so hot out there I lay down and had a very good nap and never got up until 5 this evening. Record heat index and more to come but more rain hopefully. Most people don't like it but then most of them aren't 74 and can't take the heat. Even the three cats inside have slept all day because it was so cool indoors. ;0)
As I said if she's capable of doing the job properly I don't see what the issue is. Found this online... "The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older." However, that's no guarantee. They may tell you it's some other reason to cover it up. I don't think they're forced to keep an older worker who can't perform their job duties.
Also, employers have you sign consent that when they hire you it's "at-will" meaning either you or they can end the employment at any time for any reason. However, they can't fire you because of your age. But they can fire you if you're not able to perform your duties and get your work done.
i will also add that i knew a lady that was close to retirement and they let her go so they wouldn't have to pay her the retirement money. so there's nothing saying they won't or can't it's just a matter of if.
This happened to me, I was 2 yrs away from retirement from a business, it was a private school and I was in the admissions dept. And did a good job. But the head mistress decided to "clean house" as she called it and I was given the heave go. With the help of my then son in law and a retired attorney bf, we sued the school. I only got a $5K payoff but was advised to take it and get out of their hair. The headmistress is a Bitc***, we never had a love for one another. I had been for some yrs doing PT childcare and I had a nice resume and the need was there and I went to work for the rest of my work years in the childcare field. At 62 I took social security so the child care filled in since the job was gone. It's worked out and I'm so happy to be retired totally. Families are thankful for finding good reliable childcare workers.
